Looking for a place where I can take my dogs for a good swim.

We live near Dover and I'm looking for a body of water that moves (no stagnant lakes, it makes them sick) that dogs are allowed in throughout the summer.

It would be a trip down from Magnolia . My dogs swim regularly in Indian River Bay. The younger one likes it even in less than hot weather.

Look for signs, but try:
Woodland Beach-Smyrna, Port Mahon-Little Creek, Leipsic, Pickering Beach, Bowers Beach, Slaughter Beach. I frequently see dogs swimming but maybe during a specific time of year.

longnecker, My parents just bought a house in Ocean View and I am looking for places to take my dog(s) to swim. I am looking for detailed instructions of where to go because I have been quite confused about where dogs are allowed or not allowed in the same parks/areas. Where do you take your dogs in the Indian River Bay? I know I can go to Dewey Beach after 5:30, but I don't know where to park there either! I know I could 'discover' this all on my own when I get there (I live in VA), but if I could have someone's first hand knowledge to save time, gas, etc., I would greatly appreciate it. Also, do you know how I can find little hidden places close to Ocean View with moving water for my dogs to play in? Any ideas? Thanks so much!!!!!

I wish I could help but I am on the other side of Indian River Bay from you. I know Cape Henlopen State Park has (had?) a beach for surf fisherman and dogs so I would check the state park just north of Fenwick Island. There is plenty of land along the bay which is not" beach" Sorry but I have no personal knowledge of that area.

Try James Farm on Cedar Neck Road in Ocean View. I go hiking there, and dogs are permitted. There is a little beach there, and I have seen dogs swimming out in the bay. It's really ideal for dogs--not mucky or dirty, and it's rather shallow. They are supposed to be leashed, but it shouldn't be an issue if there aren't many people on the beach or it's the off season. Oh, and it's free admission
