My family has rented/owned in Rehoboth for 50+ years. Prices have gone up, like everywhere else. Weekly cottage rental in North Rehoboth, Henlopen Acres, and The Pines area (the nicest areas of Rehoboth), run from $1,000 per week off season to $6,000 week. Typical cottages can sleep 8-14 people, give or take, so you can make the most of your money going in a big group, and cooking your own meals most of the time rather than eating out, as you would have to do if you were in a hotel situation. I went alone in 2005, renting a two bedroom in The Pines that was listed as sleeping five for $850.00 week in early October (still warm enough to swim, minus the crowds). The entire trip, with gas to/from, rental, food, incidentals, and fun money ($700), cost me around $1800. A hotel for one week at that time would have cost me an additional $200, and I would have had to eat out every night, so an additional expense there. Some sad news: Since you were last there: The old boardwalk 5&10 is gone, and Rt. 1 is now a “strip” and it’s constantly a snarl of traffic because of people running to the pricey “outlet” strip malls. Also, ugly development is rampant, even in The Pines and Henlopen Acres areas. I wish the town fathers would put a stop to this. Rehoboth is quickly losing its aesthetic charm as a beach town because people are buying vintage cottages on lots and subdividing those lots to make more money (this is what happened to my Great Aunt and Uncle’s cottage); and there don’t seem to be any building codes that aren’t open to wild interpretation. Houses look like something you would find in Miami, not the Rehoboth I knew. This, in large part, is what’s driving prices up and making Rehoboth an unattainable vacation spot for many who have been vacationing there for decades. It’s sad. Along with this rise in rental/dining prices, RT. 1 is slowly encroaching on the tourist dollar, so much so that the wonderful shops and boutiques along the boardwalk streets that were there during a previous trip have usually changed into something else, or worse, are boarded up by the time of our next trip. I hope the city can do something about this before it’s too late. Sorry for the soapbox commentary, but if things keep going this way, only the very wealthy will be able to afford Rehoboth. It will become like another Cape Cod or even "Hamptons-esque," with tourists marginalized along the Rt. 1 strip malls and state parks; that is, only if they can afford to pay the day parking fee.

Hey SAB1956, There is a really nice home for sale in my neighborhood right now on a 1/2 acre open flat lot, very private neighborhood, 2 miles to the boards in Reho, 4 miles to Lewes, right behind Food Lion on Ocean Breeze Dr, all new completely redone contemporary 2 story 3 bedroom, 2.5 baths, 2 car garage, beautiful home for just over $300,000 I think about $329,000. Would need to fence in back yard for the dogs or invisible fence it.

You won't find a better deal in Reho than right now & I am in no way affiliated with any real estate company or anything like that, just passing info on!

I could put a link up from the MLS system on here but it's not allowed so if you email me at kutzlawns@aol.com I will send the link if your interested OK.

BJ

I think that the prices are still less then a week at the Jersey shore.
I think Rehoboth is such a charming place. Tiny little shops here and there on cobble stone walkways.
Don't you just love that the beach is "free" to go on? That is so inviting to me when I have paid for so many years in New Jersey.
What the kids enjoy is the Fun Park area where it has inside rides. It is so inexpensive I feel like I am back a decade or two. That is great to have also on a rainy day.
