Mary: "Pulled pork" barbeque! Yum...I just made some the other day to take with us to Delaware. It's our kids' favorite. It took several years to get the sauce just right. I do eastern Carolina style with the vinegar & hot sauce. Yes, hubby's family is all in NC. One sister is in Sanford, one in Greensboro, mother & brother in New Bern, other brother in Morehead City. I graduated from high school in Fayetteville a hundred years ago (more or less), but moved away afterwards. Yes, we go to NC several times a year.
Peeweeaz, I don't know about the Cannon Boat Works in Morehead City. They might still be there. I'd have to ask the b-i-l.
Lori & Mary: Thanks for the info re the traffic, railroad, and power stations around Westminster Village. It's always good to have as much info as possible about a situation, especially if the management is going to give your their own spin. I will definitely talk to some residents to see if the noise bothers them. As for traffic, Mom won't be driving herself, so that won't matter. They run a shuttle bus for all the residents to go shopping, to the doctor, off on outings, and so forth.

Slightly off-topic, but does anybody know anybody who lives in Westminster Village? It's over by the hospital, I think, in the west side of town.

New to your forum but thought I could offer a little bit of info regarding nursing homes ....
Westminister is a nice facility but it is very close to the train tracks and the power plant .... as for traffic ..... it is HORRIBLE between 4:30p and 6:00p every day! (especially when Im trying to get home
There are several very nice facilities like Silver Lake and one on State Street (unfortunately some-timers has struck and I cannot remember the name) it is on the corner of State and Division if that helps! There is also a nice facilty in Milford .... (20 minutes south of the base). I work for a physician in Milford and have heard some not so great things about some of the nursing homes in the area. Just be sure to let the staff know that you will be actively checking on your mom and you should not have any problems.
Dover is nice but has gotten increasingly busy with all the new construction in the area .... we often avoid the 13/113 area in favor of route 1 even tho' they have raised the tolls.
Good luck in your search ...

Thanks Charley ....
Felt somewhat like I was eeves dropping ... it's nice to see so many folks interested in moving to our tiny state. (I was born and raised here )
As for those of you lucky enough to get together for lunches, Franco's in the Goose Creek Shopping Center on Rt 10 (near Dover Air Force Base) is a fantastic Italian restaraunt that you will find offers fantastic food at very reasonable prices (it's our favorite Italian place!)

Hi, Edna!
And to everyone looking for dining around Dover, Edna is right! I had a wonderful meal at Franco's shortly before we moved. It's up behind the MickyD's at the Air Base end of Rt. 10.

Wow! Thanks Edna! And a belated welcome to you to the board! Although our family is/are new to DE (just since 9/1), we HAVE lived in the south for the last 15 years, so I was not minding my southern manners! I do apologize for the rudeness!
I think I speak for the lunch group... you are welcome to join us tomorrow for Chinese; perhaps the next place we'll try is Franco's. I think the Magnolia ladies will be familiar with the location; and LASH and I both swear by our Kent County map books, so we can find it as well.
Man, I am so hungry... I'm trying to ignore the fact that we have Halloween candy right inside my front door! This Progresso bean & pasta soup just isn't doing it tonight!
