You're quite welcome Beegee. Stay in touch and let us know how it's going. Maybe there are some things you can teach us as you continue to progress.

We had stopped in Millsboro after leaving Bethany are. Seemed to be plenty of time to get something to eat & gas up. We were very, very low on gas and the more stations we passed the more seemed to be closed down Our final stop was one in Millsboro. I say final because all the electricity went out in the entire Del Marva area. We left the car at the station & walked to a small luncheonette. How pleasant the waitress was , lighting candles at out table so we could see and serving us cold coffee & pie. There was one local woman who we struck up a conversation with. We new we didn't have enough gas to get very far but thought we may try to make it to Lewes & then take a boat across to New Jersey ( where there was no problem). We couldn't go the original route we wanted to so this seemed our only option. To make a long story shorter, the woman we met insisted we come to her home (down the road a bit) and she would give up gas she had for her lawn mover & she would get more from her neighbor. I don't think the neighbor really wanted to do this but this woman was very insistant. By the way, she wouldn't take a tdime from us for all her help & her cost of gas. Pleople like that you don't meet every day of sometimes never. This was an older person with not much of her own. She will never be forgotten my me. After all this my point is, people are not only friendly to just say hello, they are very caring & good folks; especially in the small town areas. We really lucked out becasue power was down in three states for over 16 hours. You will like Delaware IMH

Don't believe everything you read about Delaware and the beach areas there. Do yourself a favor and rent there first. I lived and owned in Rehoboth for 5 years, and couldn't wait to leave, and my family has been going there since the 30's, so I thought it would be a great place to live. Not. The majority of locals are uneducated, ignorant and fearful of outsiders changing their way of life. Forget about jobs, there are none, and the good ole' boys only take care of themselves, and their families. Health care is atrocious, and it truly is a dictatorship state. Oh, and please, please, please drive the speed limit, the cops are gung ho on arresting people, and the majority of them are fresh out of training, so they lack experience, and only see those $$$., signs. Did you know that DE has the highest incarceration level in the country. Guess they have to keep all those prisons filled they built. Pull up the News Journal for current news, and educate yourself first, before taking the plunge. There are far better places to live.

This was the only statement in that entire post trashing Delaware that could be possibly referenced with actual data. So I researched and found the most current statistics.
These statistics include data for incarceration by state and of course, Delaware does NOT have the highest level in the country. Delaware's rate is 3,596 per 100,000 population. So is Arizona, by the way. Sorry, Peewee.
Connecticut comes in a 4,144 per 100,000 ... Oklahoma = 4,824 ... Pennsylvania = 4,811 ... Idaho = 5,198 ... Colorado = 5,058 ... Wisconsin = 4831 and I could go on. But the basic FACT here is that is that Delaware is slighly above the national average of 3,444 per 100,000 of population. Hardly the "highest incarceration level in the country"
If you want to tell us only the bad stuff, that's fine ... but please be accurate. I wonder if the rest of your post is as "accurate" as the incarceration claim, which is clearly untrue.

One mans junk is another mans gold. Depends on your perspective. I found delawareans to be quite friendly. We moved in Feb from Philly and I was quite surprised how nice everyone was and is.
Although,
you may be right about jobs but we are retired and its not imperative that we find a job.
When we moved here all I heard was how great the beaches were. So, we went checking for ourselves. Aside from being close, they were great. A little crowded but we like to go off season.
Cape Henelopen is my favorite.
To anyone hearing conflicting messages on DE, Check it out for yourself and decide if you want to live here or not.
No one place is right for everyone. We are different in one way or another and someone may hate it and someone may love it.
So
check it out for yourself.

Maybe I should have said, Delaware, in comparison to other states has a very high incident of incarceration, given the fact that Delaware is also one of the smallest states in the Union, does not make Delaware a shining star in my opinion. I use to love the State, even bought property there, but thankfully got out, before prices plunged. I am only trying to get people to do their research first before making a major purchase, and in my opinion a major mistake before relocating there. Start reading the News Journal published out of Wilmington, DE. They exposed corruption in the correctional facilities (state owned) as well as the Psychiatric facilities also state owned. The only jobs available with any type of future or pension are in law enforcement. It is very sad for me that the state has ruined itself due to the fact that people are allowing these things to happen. You might also want to pull up the Cape Gazette, the state and county have spent millions of dollars on the IR inlet bridge, only to find out that the ground beneath the pilings has become unstable. This will cost the residents thousands of dollars, because the State, and county representatives, are still pointing fingers as to whose fault it is. I strongly believe in Freedom of Speech, FOIA, and found these constitutional rights to be prohibitive in Delaware. If you disagree with me, then do your own research and come up with your own conclusions, you have that right.

Could it be Dee that you are an agent promoting real estate in NC? No more than a negative add campaign in my book. Say what you will but this state is changing rapidly. I have never met so many warm and friendly people as I have since I moved here 1 1/2 years ago. I love this area and no matter what you say it doesn't change my opinion one bit.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

I too have done my research, and would like to bring to your attention the following:
The United States has world’s highest incarceration rate. Delaware, the second smallest state, enjoys the dubious distinction of having one of the highest incarceration rates of any of the 50 states in America. More important, the scales of justice in Delaware weigh far more heavily on African Americans than similarly situated Whites....
www.njisj.org/pubdocs/red_072805_delaware_report.pdf
In the future, just because you haven't done your research, do not call those of us who have, inaccurate, or discredit our posts. The truth will set you free. Looks like I hit a nerve with you, what's your beef with me?

Sir, my family lived in Delaware and Maryland since the 20's. I have always considered the Rehoboth Beach area the best in the country, it was not until I actually lived there, that I saw the corruption unfolding before my very eyes. If you are happy there, that is all that matters. I am in no way promoting NC. And for your info. I still have investment property in DE, as well as in NC, GA, and SC. I am well travelled, well educated, and I apologize if your feathers have been ruffled. My Thanksgiving was awesome, as I hope yours was too. I guess anywhere is better than PA, whoops, sorry, I own property there too.
