I've also been told that DE has some of the highest car insurance rates going, with my area being one of the most expensive. That doesn't really surprise me given all the accidents that occur around here and all the careless, idiotic drivers I've encountered.

I have State Farm and receive every discount under the sun. Married, 22 years of driving, no accidents and no points on my driving record. I have full coverage on my 2004 anniversary edition Mustang GT and pay $740/year--it is a more expensive vehicle to insure. I only pay $290/year on my 1993 Ford F150 4x4, but it only has no deduct comprehensive, liability, and rated to drive 7500/miles or less a year. My 16-year-old son (has no accidents and no points) costs $150/month to insure on an old beater car with only liability! He is on his father's policy because I just cannot afford that.

We pay just over $1,000 every 6 months for 2 trucks and 1 car with full coverage.

We got a Geico quote a few months ago, just to see what we could save. Their quote was DOUBLE what our State Farm bill is. The agent was mortified when I faxed our State Farm bill to him.

Funny, we were always at least a 2 car family. Amazing what we learned to live without! We sold the second car 2 years ago, don't have to maintain it, buy tires, have it take up space in the driveway or garage, and pay insurance on it. Of course, bus transportation is only steps from our house, if we ever need it.

I pay just over $600 every six months for liability only (slightly higher coverage than minimum) for two cars, and two experienced drivers. I have USAA. This thread got me curious, so I went on to Progressive.com, and they quoted me well over $800 every six months for the same coverage! Love USAA!!!

I agree CarrieM, I have been a USAA customer for many years and their rates can't compare to anyone else's.

I don't know... we just paid Progressive. 6 months for $611, full coverage on a 2006 crossover and a 2012 "upscale" midsize sedan that's used for work with a low deductible. Seems reasonable to me.

Not sure why you think it is expensive. I used to pay only $550 for car insurance every 6 months. Then when I moved to philly that almost doubled to $1200 every six months.

Just remember, the cheapest insurance does not mean the best insurance, especially when you need it. I've used State Farm for years, and after my car got totaled in an accident, I had no problem at all getting State Farm to pay for the hospital bills and costs to cover the car. I love my insurance.
