We understand that most folks in northern DE send their kids to private school. We know some send them to public until middle or high school and then switch to private. Are there ANY quality middle and high schools in Newark for which one does not need a lottery or a prayer.

I have looked in PA, that would be a bit challenging financially, but if someone can recommend an area with good schools and decent housing, we can check into it.

In addition, are there any recommendations for towns in or near Wilmington that allow for walking to shops?

Thank you for your help.

My advice, dont move to Newark, Newark has some good public schools but most are terrible. There is a small section that is part of the Appo district, and a few in North Star. All else is sketchy.

Look in Pike Creek (19808) with Linden Hill (blue ribbon school) and skyline middle school (highly ranked). Although it's considered part of Wilmington, Pike Creek is really safe and has tons of shops, i love it here. And the best part is you have many rental options.

Asidd from Pike Creek, the better piblic schools will be in Greenville (wilmington), hockessin, and middletown.

There are a few neighborhoods in Pike Creek (19808) where you could walk to shopping. There are a lot of neighborhoods that are a very quick car ride to shopping. The good elementary schools in Red Clay School District, from what I have heard, are North Star, Linden Hill, Brandywine Springs, Heritage and Forest Oak. A lot of students choice in Forest Oak so it is less of a neighborhood school than some of the others. Greenville does have a nice feeder pattern but it is not a walkable community.
