I've heard "warsh" inland every once in awhile, although neither my husband nor I have ever used this term. I always thought it was a western Maryland word.

Back to the snobs....notice I said I haven't encountered many since living down here. There were plenty where I lived on Foulk Road, at least back in the 70's--80's. Funny thing is, these snobs actually had a lot less money than some of the much friendlier people I'm encountering down here who are millionaires. Yes, snobbery was mostly old money northern Delaware families and those related to the DuPonts--they were more standoffish than anything though. I have a few snobs in my family, and we just don't associate with them. My parents and grandparents were always old fashioned, down to earth people but there are a few distant cousins of mine who are about as lively and fun as an old tree stump.
