Finally, Delaware has an NPS site: http://www.delawareonline.com/articl...-national-park

The Woodlawn tract in particular is really beautiful. I hope this designation will result in better marked trails and access.

Forgot the News-Journal restricts access to its articles (you would think they'd be happy anyone wanted to read them in any fashion). Here is the link from today's Philly paper: Obama set to designate Brandywine Valley and other land as Delaware's first national monument. The print version had some nice pictures and included a quote from Joe Biden.

The News-Journal website has gone down, along with the paper.

Strange, the way they're doing this. The Green, in Dover, is also on this list, along with some other sites. The DSN wouldn't let me copy it, either. Here's an older article from the Dover Post. Since then, it's been approved.

The important thing (imo) was to get to the Woodlawn tract preserved. This accomplishes that. It is a quick way to preserve land under the NPS: "A National Monument in the United States is a protected area that is similar to a National Park except that the President of the United States can quickly declare an area of the United States to be a National Monument without the approval of Congress." National Monument (United States) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Several national parks began as national monuments. Here is the most recent conversion: Pinnacles National Monument Becomes the Newest National Park in the US - Softpedia

Publishers of newspapers are doing everything they can to encourage people to access their content before they go out of business. Given the state of the News-Journal, they should make it easier, not harder to access their content.

It's official. Here's the NJ link (which may not work), given their viewing restrictions: http://www.delawareonline.com/articl...ument-Delaware.

Oddly, it seems to be getting better coverage in the Inquirer: New designation edges Delaware closer to its first national park
