LOl......Yeah I was wonder about the loud thumping cars.
I live in Dover and as far as I can tell, no one bats an eye over an interracial couple. Not sure But I think you will find smyrna to accepting of your family.
Good luck

momma, I've lived in Dover for a long time, and, for the most part the black/white/minority community has gotten along well. Certainly, that has been true in our neighborhood. Dover is about 55% white, and, I think, about 40% black, with the rest latino and other minorities. I know there are a good many mixed marriages.
Smyrna has a significantly larger white community. I checked a while back, and I think that the stats are close to 75% white and 25% black (and other minorities). I don't know, have no info about, the acceptance of mixed couples and their offspring.
Sad to say that, as reported in the Dover Post this week, there is an ongoing investigation regarding a hate (property-related) crime at the home of a racially mixed family living in Camden, which is a very small 'burb of Dover.
Our children are well grown, but there used to be various programs--camps (though only for a few days or a week) available through Parks and Recreation--for kids in the summer. Perhaps someone will have more information for you.

I have live in NEW YORK City most of my life and to compare Delaware, Smyrna, Delaware is a wonderful fresh of air. If you can handle the wage scale you can enjoy your time living there.

There's Nothing Wrong with Smyrna
I have lived on the outskirts of Smyrna for four years now, and have never had a problem. Smyrna is no different from most other cities as many people have already stated - there are a lot of nice areas, and a few areas of which you want to steer clear. Most of Smyrna is quiet and friendly. It's not a bad place to live at all!

Perhaps you could visit www.delawareonline.com and find some communities in Northern Kent county (Smyrna and Dover) that are in your price range. Let us know a few that you like, and maybe we can tell you what we think of the area.
