Hi TriDad,
Too bad, Mort's Deli bit the dust, and come to think of it, the Card Shop is gone! Many, many changes here. I go back to 1959 when I worked in downtown Dover, and my favorite place was Braunsteins Department Store, now Loockerman Exchange, and formerly Winston's. Talk about OLD!!!!! Dover Hardware replaced Emmanuel's Department Store, and now Dover Hardware has been leveled to make way for a multi story apartment building with a garage.

Sometime around 1959-1960 I left my office on Loockerman Street, and walked down to the Treadway on Mirror Lake. I had nothing else to do, and all the talk was about this young political upstart coming to campaign in Dover, so why not walk down and see what's going on? His name was John Kennedy! It was crowded on that lower level, everybody pushing and shoving, and before I knew it, I had been pushed into his arm. At that point, all I saw was the navy pin striped sleeve of his suit. I looked up, and there was that toothy smile! He was very charming, and I got a straw hat to wear back to my job, only to be told by my boss to "TAKE THAT HAT OFF"!
Dumb, me! But, here I go rambling, again!!! Sorry! I know there's a special thread for ramblers.

Well, this thread is entitled "Hey Delly from Dover Delaware" so I think that entitles you to ramble on. As you do, we get to learn about the history and spirit of the area ... so keep on rambling!!

Hi there! I grew up in Delaware and married the "boy next door" .. My family came from New England and thanks to the air force sent us to Delaware in 1963! on a sad and darker note.. the Day Kennedy was shot.. I was too young to know what was going on at the time but certainly remembered the day of our move because of it. I attended schools in the CR district thru high school and part of College.. and go back often since my mother still lives in the same house! (Rodney Village)..
