New Castle is it nice out there
Living in NYC thinking about relocating to New Castle Delaware, is it nice out there? what are the good neighborhoods, and bad? Is it hard to find a job out there?

Mae,
I'm assuming you mean the city of New Castle, since giving information regarding the neighborhoods, etc., in the whole county would be difficult.
Someone will come along, I hope, and give you more information, especially since we haven't visited New Castle for several years, but some of the coastal drive up Route 9 from Dover is lovely, so we've done that a few times. Immediately south of the city of New Castle is the Delaware City oil refinery, and that comes as kind of a shock.
There is a small, beautiful historic area, with some lovely houses in New Castle. Several years ago, there was at least one good restaurant. I've heard that some of the areas surrounding the historic area are not the best neighborhoods. I'm afraid I lack information about the job situation.
If you're looking for New Castle COUNTY, I'm sure you'll find some detailed threads.

New castle is a nice area, you do have occasional New York thugs or philly thugs that come through the area and shoot **** up, but besides that its very nice area, a mixed black and white middle class community where everyone respects eachother

New Castle (city)
New Castle is a tough call. There are parts that are fine, and areas you really want to avoid. I've been looking for a house for a while, and I don't really look there anymore. You need to know someone who knows New Castle, so you can ask by neighborhood.

New Castle itself can be a rough area. New Castle County (esp North) for the most part is very nice and can be rather expensive, but coming from NYC it might not be prohibitive. Check out Hockessin and Yorklyn for very nice housing. Some opt for S Chester County, which also has very nice housing. There is also very nice housing south of that area along 7, 41, and 48 headed south from Hockessin.

Pretty spot on folks. I live in New Castle about 2 minutes from "Old New Castle" up rt. 9 toward wilmington.
if going on rt.9 from wilmington down you get...
wilmington area, hollaway terrace and so on, not so nice, i used to live in holloway terrace, its not bad but not great either. then you get into swanwyck, jefferson farms, van dyke village, castle hills. I live in this area now and it's pretty decent but still not what most consider a nice crime free neighborhood. now past that you are into old new castle proper, very nice small town feel, clean, great shops and restaurants but the little old houses are gonna cost you. past that still is the area around dobbinsville and the like.....AVOID.

I don't know how much research you have done regarding your possible move. I just wanted to let you know that from my experience, I live on Long Island in New York, New Castle County is more like the city, Kent County is more like Long Island and Sussex County is where the farm lands are (more rural). As far as better neighborhoods, I can't respond. I'll leave that to the locals of Delaware. I wish you the best of luck!

New Castle is a strange animal.
New Castle town itself is nice and expensive and safe, but the surrounding neighborhood consist of OLD SUBURBS, which are the first suburbs to go bad in an area.
The area is very blue-collar, and, if I may be a Wilmington snob, is an area I have always looked down on. It's like a suburb with all the crime and congestion of an urban area.
Make sure you visit it thoroughly if you are planning to move down there.
