My husband and I walked towards the crowd and the Amish auctioneer was holding up this beautiful wooden bucket. People were bidding, and then I rose my hand to bid. A silence fell over the crowd, and we didn't know what happened. I looked around, then noticed we were the only non-Amish people there. The auctioneer put down the bucket, and everybody bowed their heads. A very old Amish man came towards us. "This is for family" he said. "I'm sorry, please leave". We were mortified! So we hurried back to our car in the deafening silence of embarrassment. They did not resume the auction and chatter until we started our car. What a lesson I learned!!! Put this in your memory banks!
Thanks for sharing that delly. Why did they put the sign out if it was just family? I would say it was their fault not yours.

Well, please keep carrying on because we're all learning things we wouldn't know if not for the things we pick up during other folks rambles!

P.S. This is another reason why the ability to chat off topic is so important in a state forum where sometimes, the real education comes from the personal experience of others. Oh my ... did I say that out loud

We had about a foot of snow fall today in our area of New York. I'm curious. Did you have snow in Delaware today? How much?

Thanks.

In the Dover area, about 1/2 inch of ice/snow, if that. I got in my car at 8 a.m. and headed south on Route 13 to Bridgeville to work, and went 45 mph, instead of 55. It was slushy on back roads on the east and west side of Bridgeville, and I went slower. It turned to rain very quickly, and I returned back to Dover about 11 a.m. I didn't see any fender benders, either. It was business, as usual for me, although they closed some schools.

What a difference 200 miles makes.

Thanks Delly.

I don't know gang... we had about 3 inches all around our yard and the back deck. But it came in Thursday, not today. As Delly and from PA said, we mostly just got sleet/ice from the wee hours of the morning. Enough to crust over what was already here.

My kids were happy to have a surprise day off... but won't like to make it up. Hubby said Manhattan was nuts today, and he got off work early. Last I heard, they had about 6-8 inches in western Nassau County (NY).

Funny, my folks in central NC had the slushy stuff too. Wonder what elizamary will think of what she missed here in DE?

Mary
