Default Spring, Seeds, Plants....Growing

Well, I'm tangled up again in this Forum, and I know there was some dialog about seeds, peat pots, etc. between MaryCh and ElizaMary.....but I can't find it! The stress of trying to do the right thing on this Forum is wearing me out, and at 67 years old, I'm thinking to myself........The heck with Rules! I am, what I am, and if anybody thinks I don't take orders well......you're right! Thank goodness Charley started this Thread!

So, on to spring, seeds, plants and growing stuff ....
In Delaware, we can put out our seedlings in mid-late June, but that all depends on the weather, we know. Last year my peat pots didn't do too well, because if you skip a day misting them, they dry up and are gone. Those little stringy seedlings will not jump up to a full salute if you skip a day keeping them moist. When they're gone, they're gone. I did some winter sowing last year, too. That was a disaster. I followed the directions, planted my seedlings in December, and in milk cartons. I put them outside along the back of my house, as I was told, and ignored them. Snow, rain, ice.....nothing would kill them, and by Spring I was to have an abundance of lush, green plants to set out in my garden. The squirrels ate the milk cartons, and buried walnuts in the dirt. Nothing was left but the moldy bottoms of milk cartons. Hope you all are luckier than I. I've planted my peat pots again, and have them back at my sliding glass door. This year, I have no aspirations of having a glorious array of beautiful plants. Maybe my expectations were too high. Anyway, I'm posting a photo of what I bought my d-i-l for her birthday, a grow light and planter for herbs. I wish I could keep it. Delaware Off-Topic-p1015270.jpg Click to enlarge. Oh, by the way.....the two televisions look normal to me, but if anybody is puzzeled.....it's my husband's idea. One is for football or another sport, and the other is for Nascar! Can't miss anything here, and picture/in-on/picture is too tiny for him!

I'm so bad about keeping up here. Other people use this computer, which means that not only do I have to schedule my work, some of it, around this sharing, but also can't take as many fun breaks here as I'd like. Just so you know why I don't know what you all are talking about a lot of the time!

This is a safe thread though, isn't it, since it's off topic, and I don't have to worry. Or do I?

I saw Eliza mention (on another thread?) about taking a long run, so now I'm thinking you're younger than I am, Eliza! Also, just missed you at Rehoboth! We thought we'd be there Monday, but schedules didn't work out, so we were there on Sunday, which was sunny and beautiful and a little chilly, which I enjoy. Many greyhounds were walking the boardwalk. Has anyone mentioned that there's a special day or weekend, for rescued greyhounds and their owners in the fall at, I think, both Rehoboth and Bethany?

Now I see a post by Delly, who scared me on another thread. Delly, you probably don't know that we're trying to move. Well, we're doing some things leading up to eventually moving. I can't remember, this was a day or so ago, what you wrote. In any case, I probably need some advice on how much to fix up the house in anticipation of moving eventually. This house has been here about as long as we've been here in DE, so it's almost 31. We have been good about maintenance, but maybe we're looking a bit dated. I mean the house! Well, us too.

Mary, you always seem to be doing something, going somewhere, busy, and very involved in so much. Well, Eliza too. All of you. I don't have a sense of who some of you are, or what you're referring to. Sorry! Charley is visiting, and I know he's interested in 55+ communities.

A poor attempt at catching up here, but I hope, off-topic, that anything goes. I was asked, a couple weeks ago, to join some of the locals for lunch, but couldn't make it. I'm out-of-town, out-of-state, or otherwise busy too much of the time, but I would truly enjoy meeting you sometime.

Oh, and we drove through Magnolia this time on our way to and from the beach, and I noticed a sign for Jonathan's Landing! We didn't turn off to take a look, but I think that's where PA lives, isn't it? By the way, we discovered that it takes us about 20-25 minutes, back route, to get to Magnolia. Now don't you think I would have become aware of that at some time during our 30 years in Dover?

Hi Anniebleu!

Where do you want us all to be, so we can take the computer away from "them" ??? You've done very well piecing this puzzle together, and although we are 'different', we are the 'same'. I won't go in to definitions, but you know what I mean.

Yes, PA (Cot) lives at JL..........about fixing up a house before you sell it, Realtors will tell you the best things to update are the kitchen and bath. However, people in this market, it seems, are looking for a low priced house, in average condition. I don't know if I would sink money into the house right now. You may may sell it quicker, but you may not recoup that money. If we meet, I'll elaborate as to why I have firm ideas about these things.

Eliza takes a long run? I don't know about that, but I'm extremely proud that I am the oldest one of the bunch! And, I use it! Yes, there is a greyhound convention in the fall, in Dewey Beach. But my favorite happens about a month prior to that, the first week of September......The Elvis Competition. Contestants come from all over the country, and it's also in Dewey Beach at the Rusty Rudder. It's a 2-day event and last year we got a room and stayed the entire 2 days, 2 nights! What a blast! My husband had a strange comment "I'M NEVER GOING BACK". Oh, well, I enjoyed it!

Delly, Delly, your age is showing! This is NOT the Leap Day thread... it is the "off topic" thread! But since I'm your friend, I will forgive you that senior moment. I may be riding in your car one day...

Annie, you did a great job catching yourself up on we regulars! Sorry to hear you're leaving DE, but I DO understand where you are coming from. As I've posted elsewhere, my folks are leaving NC (after 15+ years) this summer to COME to DE... hope they love it as much as we do.

Elizamary running... oh yeah, I can see it. But I've seen that little lady in more action than most of you. Should see her chasing after Mr Bill with her broom! Now THAT is a site to see... She can be feisty!

Dewey Beach in Sept is where I just may have to go. We are big Elvis fans... THAT sounds like big fun to me! And thankfully, my boys will tolerate the activity cuz they love their mama! Will have to let them spend some time at/on/in the water, but that is easy!

Yeah, Annie, I do keep busy. It is what I do, and thankfully, hubby has learned to love me in spite of it all! Speaking of which, I need to get back to cleaning the garage... but I'm hoping in the mom van ahd heading to Dover. Weather is too nice today to stay inside cleaning! Rain is coming in... that will be soon enough.

Take care, my friends!
Mary

I spend a lot of time reading many of the threads on C-D. What I've discovered is that whatever the subject, there are always going to be people who defend a position, a state, a neighborhood, an idea, etc ... and there will always be two kinds of people who take the opposite view. One kind brings some knowledge, experience, fact or insight to the other side of the coin. The other kind are trolls who just come around looking for an argument.

In my own humble opinion, I think that it is always best to completely ignore the trolls. If you don't argue back, they will become bored and move elsewhere. Healthy debate is fine. Nasty, argumentative trolls are just a waste of time and energies.

It can be difficult moving from an area of a lifetime. But both bill and I adjusted rather quickly. we were so happy with owning a brand new home all on one floor with a garage door remote. So happy, we thought we died and went to heaven. Doesn't take much to make us happy.
With my retirement, we spend more time together and believe or not........that is a good thing. Much to my surprise, I have to say.

Yeah, guess you could say I an feisty. glad you didn't say abusive. I just started joggin again. Each day I do a little more than the day before. I started out with jogging a few feet and increased.
Today I ran all around the community to the clubhouse. Of course it is no 3 miles but it is something to get the heart rate up.

Yeah mary, no grass grows under your feet. You are an active interesting person and glad to know you

Yeah Delly, old Eliza runs. Not far but I'm trying to get back in shape. Maybe a marathon some day. And I'm proud you are the oldest too

No annie I am older than you by not much though
I used to run/jog and now I'm trying to get back into it slowly

Just goes to show you, getting old doesn't always include a rocker. For myself, I will keep moving as long as I am able.

Default burning the midnight oil

Oh I know Mary will be on tonight burning the midnight oil.
Every morning I get on, it looks like you guys were having a ball. I'm not on much at night. Pretty much watching TV and keeping Billy Boy company.
so burn away people and I will ketch up tomorrow.
