Annie, when I take a dish that must travel, I take a Watergate Salad that's delicious, no pistacio pudding in it. It's always gobbled up. If you want that receipe, let me know.

Carole, After you make that merge onto Bay Road from Clapham Road, there is a light a couple of hundred feet ahead. It's the intersection that takes you back to Bowers Beach. The house I'm referring to is to the right of that light going south. If you are coming back to Route 1/113 from Bowers Beach Road, the house is directly in front of you.
Using the satellite view on Google Maps, you can see the roof quite clearly. The property appears to be a rectangle set in an open field with a lot of trees surrounding the house. btw, I agree with you about that merge there. It can be a real stinker!! |

I found the Huguenot House online. It's called the Allee House, and it is between Smyrna and Leipsic on Route 9. At one time, after it was partially restored, it must have been for sale to the general public.
Here's a link about it: http://www.fws.gov/HistoricPreservat...AlleeHouse.pdf |

I'm looking forward to your offer, rdlr!!!
Today could have been a "down to Dover day", but my daughter is visiting here in the mountains right now. I stayed here. Also, there are folks vacationing in the home next door to us. Seems they gave both their boys BB guns for some rural fun. Yep. We now have a ruined window. I'm spending the day trying to address their concept of 'rural fun'. I sure hope they weren't just firing at anything that moved. We live in a virtual zoo up here. ![]() I'll never understand the lack of responsibility on the part of some adults. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the window that was hit was right above the grandkids' toy box. I'd better stop now. I feel some four-letter words comin' on. ![]() |

Still making me the muffins of my dreams ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm going to have to check out that house. I think the history behind these homes is fascinating. Listening to Rockky and Rdlr describe the days makes me think of what a wonderful place to live back then. But they have the memories to share with us. Good job!! ![]() |

Haven't been able to stop by here for days, and I have about 2 minutes now---so, just to say, interesting reading.
Roc and rdlr, I've been looking at that crumbling (Victorian Era or earlier?) house in the Little Heaven area for years too! I've always wanted someone to rescue it and its lovely architectural details. It really looks as if it's sagging into history now though. Thanks, too, for telling me about Little Heaven. (And more of the history, including yours!, in that whole area. Wish my husband and I could have joined you sometimes!) And, yes, I want that recipe! We used to visit the Allee House along with trips to Bombay Hook Refuge. There's a gate, sometimes open, separating them. I have photos of the Allee House, but no way at this time, of transferring them to this computer. I'll get around to it! Thanks again, all. |
