How was your fourth. We had a great time at SM. BTW the beach was great except the water could have been clearer. But a few hours and a shade darker is good. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. ![]() |

Hi elizamary...Went to Bower's Beach yesterday morning. Hubby didn't want to drive far this weekend. Nobody there because we were there 9am. Not a nice beach. We had to wear our shoes in the water because of all the pebbles/stones. Dirty water and lots of holes to fall into. I stepped in one hole and hurt my leg that's how deep they are. The only good thing about that beach is that it allows dogs. So we are going to take CeCe to the beach if she wants to go..........LOL............she might not want to get in the water because she won't want a "brown" coat (dirty water). Samoyed have real white coats. Next Friday I will try Slaughter Beach; I'm trying beaches that I have never been to.

Is there an area at Slaughter Beach that is open to the public or is it all private beach?

Hi CaroleM I have been to Bowers Beach several times and each time it was a mess. I don't even bother anymore. It was always loaded with horseshoe crabs and dead birds. I love Samoyeds. They are a beautiful animal. I think there may be a section on Slaughter beach opened to the public. Not sure but it is worth looking into. The water at Cape Henelopen was dirty too this week. Take care....... |

We rode down to Slaughter Beach about a month or so ago and it looked like there was a few places open to the public. There is a fire dept there and we walked over to the water through that opening. We didn't do too much checking becaue we were just riding around. If we do try to go in the water next Friday I'll be sure to let you know.

rdlr,
. What are we going to transform that old house into, by the way?Interesting discussion of the bay beaches. I've never known, in 30+ years living in Delaware, of Bowers or Slaughter as destinations for wading or swimming. Most people head to the ocean beaches in my experience. But the bay beaches sometimes have interesting natural detritus to discover. Horseshoe crabs have been around for millions of years and are important in their own way. Along our bay beaches, certain birds count on them, or their eggs, and some bird species have been reduced as fishermen have taken huge numbers of the crabs for bait. I think that's somewhat regulated now. I hope everyone is having a pleasant holiday weekend! |
