Hi, looking to relocate to DE for my husband's new job. His new job is in Dover - how feasible is a commute between Dover and Georgetown 5x a week? How are the neighborhoods and the general atmosphere of the town? Specifically, the N Bedford St area. I have already read that the schools, and the school district, are pretty good. We have five kids, so this is vital to us! But we definitely want some first-hand accounts of how the town is before we jump in and make the move.
If Georgetown is no good - what else in the area is?

I'd look at Milford - much closer to Dover and I think the schools are comparable. Look on greatschools.org or schooldigger.com. My grandmother lived in G-town when I was a kid and I think it was really hurt by having the chicken plant come into town. I would definitely visit and look around. There are some lovely homes there waiting to be renovated. Bedford Street is nice, espec. S. Bedford.

Agree about Milford and looking into homes there. Georgetown has really gone downhill in the past twenty years or so, with crime getting out of hand during these past ten.

Milford is worth looking into; there are many nice areas and homes there, particularly the ones close to route one. Another option could be Milton or Lewes--both are nice areas in a good school district (Cape Henlopen). The drive to Dover isn't bad from either location, particularly Milton.

Nicely put Liz. There are some nice areas out of town in the Georgetown zip code. A lot of in town Georgetown has gone down hill. I love their Christmas Parade. But I wouldn't want to live there.
