Hello Everyone-

I'm new to City-Data, and I'm here to get some helpful information and tips about Delaware State. I'm not that famailar with the state, besides the fact that I know Dover Downs is there and its close to Maryland (which I'm orginally from), but I need the nitty gritty.

I am planning to move within a year, two years tops, and I am considering DE. It will be me and my 3 daugters they all will be in school (elementary and middle) by time I make the move. I would like to know the best areas/counties that have good schools, good shopping/entertainment, cost of living is decent/fair (not too expensive), kid friendly, family oreinted, I would prefer a diverse area, moderate pace (not to fast or slow). I'm all about scenery as well.

How is the crime rate and job selection?

Any information would be helpful.

Thank you.

Let me answer one question first. You may not want to read farther.. Job selection in Lower Delaware is POOR. There are plenty of season retail, hotel and restaurant jobs offering low pay and no benefits. Unless you are in the healthcare field there is not a lot being offered.
WE have great schools here in Eastern Sussex County.Indian River and Cape Henlopen Districts offer good schools with plenty of activities. However Middle School and High School offer no transportation for after school activities. WE also have Sussex Academy which is expanding and now offer Middle and High School.and Sussex Tech which is nationally recognized . Both schools are available to all students in Sussex County.
We are a resort area with plenty of entertainment during the summer. Midwinter we do have a movie complex.
Delaware is shopping tax free. WE have the outlets bringing people from near and far. In my area 3 Super Markets within just a few miles.
There are many diverse areas .Some family, some senior offering many different life styles.
I would suggest that anyone relocating come FOR what is here. Do not expect it to be like home.
