I personally don't see why in this day and age this would be a problem anywhere but I guess in some circles it is.
Seems to me that De is pretty accepting as far as interracial marriages go.
Hope where ever you end up, it is the right choice.

I wouldn't worry about interacial static too much. Most are very accepting. Middletown may not be your best choice, though, due to the fact that the schools are very over -crowded.
The Pike Creek area in the suburbs of Wilmington is a very nice area and a good school district. You could find a very decent house for 350,000.

I don't think you'll have any trouble in northern Delaware having an interracial marriage or bi-racial children. I was raised in that area by a white mother and black stepfather, later married a black man, had 3 bi-racial children who are now grown and have given me a couple of granddaughters. My first marriage ended and my second husband is white. Nobody's really ever blinked an eye at the changing hue of our family make-up in over 30 years.
I moved away from Delaware last year due to a job transfer, but I doubt it's suddenly changed after all these years. If you're going to be working in Christiana you may want to look around Bear or Newark. It's an easy commute and you'll avoid the traffic on 95.
If you haven't found a realtor yet I can highly recommend two. They worked as a team when we sold our house last year but are at different agencies now. They're both great - either way you'd be in good hands. Vinnie Creo at Coldwell Banker or Linda Fonda at Century 21 in the Bear Towne Center.
You'll be able to find a nice house in or around Christiana working in your price range.

Oh, or Pike Creek as Noodles12 suggested, could be a good choice.

I think you should check out one of the Ardens (Arden, Ardentown or Ardencroft). They are very diverse communities, very accepting. Also there is always something going on in Arden, from theater to community dinners. Many artists and craftsmen live here.

DROB2 - Delaware is pretty much color blind. You should be happy wherever you move. As far as location close to Christiana, you should be able to find a wonderful home in that price range. I am showing some nice homes tomorrow in New Castle - another area you may want to look at. Good luck!

Kengel - Thanks for posting your opinion. From my limited trips to Delaware, that's kind of what I thought also, which is great.
I've lived in both "mostly white" and "racially mixed" neighborhoods in New York in my 55 years. Give me the racially mixed neighborhood any time. The diversity, the spirit, the blending and sharing of customs and cultures all make for a better living experience for me.
I've also observed that in the racially mixed neighborhood (in NY) that there is a higher level of acceptance of new people. Since I'm going to be one of the "new people", that could be a good thing for me.

Personally, living in Hockessin, unless your planning on putting the kids in private schools... Which most people do in DE. I would move to PA... Look into Avon Grove School District, which is just 20 minutes from Christiana. No biracial in this school district. Very nice suburban area, beautiful homes.
