I think this poll should have more than two choices though I voted no because all of Delaware is farther south than the geographic center of the United States near Lebanon, Kansas and it's not in the Northeast according to the Census Bureau.

Delaware is mid-Atlantic geographically, but doesn't the Census Bureau consider it (along with Maryland, DC, and W. Va.) to be Southern?

Yeah, whenever all of those mentioned in your post are southern or not is debatable.

It was part of Pennsylvania but I always looked at the canal as the divider. South of that you are in Dixie

Kansaas is more southern then Delaware ... Hello Missouri is way more southern then the mid Atlantic .. If Delaware is a southern state then Arkansas must be a North Central state 😉😉😉midwestern I mean .. It's a shame all these northern states try to play along like there's southern .

Just so we're clear, I've never been to Delaware (the farthest north I've been on the east coast is North Carolina), so this is just my opinion. I would put Delaware in a similar camp with Florida: geographically southern, but culturally northern. Most of Delaware's land area is on the Delmarva peninsula, which also consists of Maryland and Virginia, hence the name. Maryland and Virginia are generally agreed by most people to be southern states, and based on that metric, it makes Delaware southern by default, in my opinion, at least. However, I agree that, culturally, it has more in common with the northeast.

The Census Bureau considers it a Southern state, probably because it's below the Mason-Dixon Line. Physically, it's Mid-Atlantic.

Only parts of FL would be considered culturally "Northern" (if there is such a thing). The vast majority of FL is very much Southern. Maryland, while south of the Mason-Dixon line, is far from Southern.

The Census Bureau divides the "South" into several sub-regions. Delaware, Maryland, D.C. and Virginia are all in the "South Atlantic" region. (As are West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.) There isn't a "mid-Atlantic" region, but that's certainly how I usually think of the Delmarva region.
