Good morning Delaware Forum:

I have been reading the forum threads and picking up valuable information about retiring and moving to Delaware. The retirement was signed and completed last week. Deposit on a new residence in Dover area completed. Now this is where u guys come in to the rescue. Where can I find a good quiet spot, furnished if possible to wait for the house . The unit could be anything from studio size to 1 bedroom with a short term lease in a safe convenient neighborhood. I'd like to keep the monthly fee between 800-1200. So push aside the Sunday breakfast plate and do your good for today and assist a new Delawarean.

EDG14,

So, when do you need a place and for how long? There should be several furnished short term rentals available by the end of September in the Lewes area just as soon as the beach season comes to a close.

If you have pets, that could be a problem - as most do not allow pets. I assume you are looking for a furnished place and will put your furniture in storage until your new home is completed.

EDG14,

Also, go on line to capegazette.villagesoup.com and look under classifieds>real estate >rentals. It looks like there may be several winter rentals available in the Lewes area in your price range. Some are available as soon as 9/1/14.

DM me if you want some feedback regarding specific communities.

EDG14,

Even rentals that say pet friendly often exclude cats. It is extremely difficult to find a rental that will allow a cat. There will be far more short term (off season) rentals in the Lewes/Rehoboth area than in the Dover area. If you can commit to a 6 month off season rental you may find someone willing to accept a cat to ensure their unit does not remain vacant over the winter.

Best to look in the classified ads in the on line Cape Gazzette. Several are listed by realtors and a call to the realtor might be a quick way to determine which ones would be willing to consider a cat.

Hmmmm...I guess. But rentals appear cheaper to me, in Kent County, according to the multi list information I perused. In Kent County, we also have some short term bayside (vacation home) housing for rent, located in Pickering Beach, Kits Hummock, Bowers Beach, and other communities along the Bay. I live in Kent County, Dover area.

Thanks so much for the info. Our home will be in Kent Co. We would really like to find a place in the areas you named. By the way the the post u wrote about the Dover area community mis pronunciations and local lore was absolutely the "best ever!"

I am going to search everywhere Lewes, and Dover area and develop a list with pros and cons. Location is very important. I may not want to drive from Lewes to Dover area for meetings and checking on the progress of the house. The resort crowd may be thinning out but I heard that OC, Rehoboth, Bethany beaches were trying to be year round resort areas aren't they? Anyway today is my first day of retirement and I don't want to think too hard about anything. It's too much like working. Thanks
