We enjoy The Boondocks, east of Smyrna. It was an old hunting lodge, many years ago, and is a huge building, with crabs as the specialty. They have lots of long tables for big gatherings, or tables for 4. You can sit out on the enclosed porch at picnic tables, or inside. We go at least 3 times every year for our family gatherings, and order crabs and buckets of hodge-podge. They have a nice menu, but we haven't ordered off of that in a long time. The Boondocks is another local favorite.

[b]Oh annie.........no problemo...really
No argument either. Just letting people know I know a thing or two about crakes too.
I'm sure Sambos is a good restaurant and we DO plan to try it. We try anything once.
Now we tried cool springs and was disappointed. But at least we tried it.
Would never think of a long time Philly resident like you as a country bumpkin, believe me.
Aw shucks
Also, we rarely eat out. Several times during Sambo's season is one of the few exceptions we make. Otherwise, we save most dining out for during our occasional leisure trips. (That's why I can't provide much information regarding local restaurants.)
We eat out too much. Gotta start cooking and saving moo la.

Delly, Melting Pot is in Independence Mall as soon as you get on 202N from 95 up on the right. Cook it yourself Fondue type place with GREAT food. We do the spicy cheese to start, and eat the surf and turf with the mojo style cooking oil, it's awesome.
Boondocks, we go there, crabs are great, service is great, but the place could use some work.......lol
Some good crab cakes for all the crab cake conesiurs (sp). Go to Valle's in pike creek shopping center, excellent crab cakes.....

Thanks, Chase
I never made it upstate by noon today.....too many irons in the fire, too many fires to put out, and too many egos to stroke! Such is the life of the self-employed! But cook it yourself fondue??? spicy cheese? Sounds wonderful!
Agreed about Boondocks......maybe they like it a little "rough around the edges" ! How about their rest rooms? Well, I only visited the ladies room, and it is "interesting"! Valle's??? I didn't know about that one, either. I'm a downstate person, so I love learning about, whatever you have to offer! Thank you for the tips! Our daughter lives up at Chester Springs, PA, so I travel that way up 202 a couple times a month, and I know Independence Mall. My work takes me to Wilmington, west to the Maryland boundary, and throughout the state, but not too often do I hit 202 for work. Thanks, again.

LMAO! yes the bathroom at boondocks, i do not visit. I am FAR from a germophobe but it just gives off bad vibes.....lol
It's funny to me, cause my wife and her mom are SO prim and proper and they LOVE boondocks, boggles my mind.
Melting Pot we do maybe every 3 or 4 months, really good but expect a couple to spend around $100 for dinner.....soo good though, and desert is chocolate fondue with a plate of strawberrys, cheese cake, marshmallows, all kinds of stuff, TO DIE FOR.
For crabs up north here in New Castle we usually hit Lestardo's on 273

Believe me, it's worth the trip! And you have to stop by their display of boxer shorts and t-shirts on the way in!

I've no doubt that Boondocks and Sambo's are the mid state crab heaven. Been to both often. Now....what's wrong with Boondock's bathroom? LOL! I know the ladies' room has some interesting wall decor. I agree they are oldish, but they always seem pretty tidy to me. We go when it's less crowded. Perhaps the patrons need to be more careful and considerate.
Delly, do you ever have breakfast over on Silver Lake at the pancake place near where the Blue Coat was? They were real down home feeds.
We lived within walking and rowing distance of K & H. I, personally, was not impressed with anything I was served there. I know other folks like the scrapple and the inexpensive breakfasts. I enjoy dinner salads. K & H never even came close to Where Pig's Fly in that area.
For other seafood, we, personally, find Cool Springs and Big Fish more pleasing to our tastes. Fenwick Crab House is still our home base at the beach. Scott and Kathy know how to make crab cakes!! They also do on line orders out of season. My taste buds are primed for the crab dip.....ummmmm!! I think they have opened for the summer, and we are headed that way in a week or two.
Time for those lower DE deserted beach strolls and beyond-verbal-description sunsets. Gonna recharge my soul!

Rockky....Yes, I've eaten at the Countrie Eatery, but enjoyed it more when it was the Blue Coat Pancake House. Tables are a little too close for me. I do miss the Blue Coat Inn....food was o.k. but ambiance was wonderful! And, I agree with you about K & H. I also like the Big Fish, but these days, it takes careful timing....trying to figure out when the vacationers might be there standing in line. I refuse to wait in line for a meal, anywhere. Cool Springs is good, and it took a couple trips for me to figure out how and what to order. Now I like it very much. The Fenwick Crab House, is definitely a favorite, but I'm not crazy about Phillips Crab House in Ocean City, are you? We often went to Harpoon Hannah's on Rt. 54 on the Ocean City boundary, but the place has had too much partying, and the building is the worse for wear.
I love the Boondocks because it's SO politically incorrect, with the swamp water and cat tail, hodge podge in buckets, and entertaining bathrooms! Same for Sambos. We go there Nascar Weekend just for fun!
I give parties, large and small, all summer long until November 1st for friends and family. I have a caterer who makes wonderful crab cakes, just as good as Sambo's, but I can get them cheaper from him. Party #1 is mid-May, outside, for about 20-30 people living in our small town. Without parties, there's no life, where I'm concerned.

OMG, Delly, glad I know where you live! I'll be sure to drive around the block all summer long to avoid all the revelers on your front lawn!
As for the Melting Pot... went to one back in NC; definitely a special treat of the fondue variety. And Chase is right... plan on going AFTER you got lucky at Dover Downs; easily $100 night out. Also, do not expect to run in, eat, and run out. It is an experience, not just a meal.

I heard "the group" had lunch at Georgia House in Milford. How'd you all enjoy? We ate there during our visit and enjoyed it very much. They get quite a lunch crowd, huh?
