I totally know what you mean!!! I am originally from NJ/NJ (Staten Island with Family in Brooklyn) and I miss my bagels! Surf Bagel in Lewes, Delaware is decent but nothing like the real thing of NYC. Apparently Salt Bagels with cream cheese aren't too popular around here. And with the prices going up with food a bagel with cream cheese at Surf Bagel will be almost 2 bucks! I could get one on a roach coach for 50 cents!!!!!!
When I moved down here I refused to eat Grotto Pizza, lol. It just did not stand up to the family owned and operated pizzerias of the city. There was this one pizzeria on about 86th on the east side I went to after class where I could get two slices and some garlic knots for 5 bucks! In the Lewes area I have found that Bona Pizza in the Pelican Shopping center in Lewes/Rehoboth on route 1 to be as close to the real thing as possible. Their pizza was pretty good.

Arena's Deli in Rehoboth is good and very very popular on half price sandwich night but is definitely worth it. They have something for everyone.
I have also heard good things about the Purple Parrot and their burger night. My coworkers go there all the time.
I liked Nicola's Pizza and Luie's Pizza in Rehoboth but actually liked the pizza from Bona Pizza near Superfresh off of Rt. 1 better. I would eat there if i was going with a group but honestly I don't think I would pick to go to either with company.
In the long neck area I really enjoyed Ciao Bella in the Uncle Willie's Shopping center off of Long Neck Road. We ordered fried mozzarella that was out of this world. They fried fresh mozzarella instead of those processed sticks! Their portions were big and the prices were reasonable for what you got. I would definitely eat there again.
Also, in Long Neck is La Dolce Vita. My boyfriend loves their pizza. We ate there once and the food was good but about 15 bucks per person.
I also liked Shuckers that is by the Grog shop in Peddler's village off of rt. 24. They aren't cheap and have a lot of fried items but their mashed potatoes were very good.
One I just did not enjoy was Why Cook? where that Whiskers Pub used to be. My boyfriend got a burger that just did not sit well with him and while in Food Lion he literally ran to the bathroom.

I haven't read all the posts on this thread yet...but had to get in on the pizza discussion. Being from Scranton originally...the BEST pizza in the world came from the Old Forge area.
However...in Sussex...our family was divided on the old Grotto or Nick's Pizza. Guys liked Grotto, girls liked Nicks. Nick sold out a few years ago BUT...last year I found him again a couple doors down from Dolles. Did not get to try his pizza yet this year. Going back down to RB in a couple weeks...will see if it is as good as I remember...I am certain it is.
During the summer...our favorite place to dine is Rusty Rudders...smorgasboard. Excellent sea food, prime rib and much other food...getting hungry thinking about it!
I LOVE Delaware!

Chiming in on Grotto's pizza. It is GROTTO's PIZZA. It is not to be taken as normal pizza. It's like comparing Taco Bell Tacos with a real Mexican taco. Both are good, one is a trademark food to a particular place.
Grotto Pizza tastes great, and is a good start to a long night on the toilet, but even people in Delaware don't consider it to be authentic Pizza - it's just good tasting junk food pizza by grotto's after a long night of drinking. It's overpriced now and the slices have gotten to be tiny. I won't buy it in northern Delaware if I am sober.
Sorta like Subway Subs... we know they're not authentic subs, it's a SUBWAY sub.
But, if you're talking real pizza in Northern DE, you only have a couple options:
Rosario's in Pike Creek
Ciao's in Wilmington
Mangia Mangia in Wilmington
Gerardo's used to be good years ago, but I think it has closed since.

I understand LaFantano is also good in Magnolia. I walked in there the other day and the smell was heavenly.

Ok I see alot of Grotto's on here...1.) it's not that good. There is enough grease on 1 slice of grotto's pizza to grease my axles on my truck for at least 20 years. And yes I mean what i say. 2.) If your gonna move to Delaware then it's time to learn "SCRAPPLE". Not only is made of pig snout, liver, fat back, ear, heart, and corn meal; but it's a part of this complete breakfast!..lol
Rapa Scrapple
Know it, want it, EAT IT!!!

Pizza By Elizabeths in Greenville is a place I go about 3 times a week. However, be warned that it is not normal Italian pizza. It's a very special niche gourmet product that can be very innovative, particularly their weekly specials -- things like Thai curry pizza, Philly Cheesesteak pizza, etc, etc. They also have great salads and soups. Everything is made from scratch there in the restaurant. The desserts, which change weekly, are often to die for as well. In Dec. they will be moving from their present digs, up the road to the same center that Janssens is in. They mean to have an expanded bar menu in the new place. They have a quite good wine list, BTW. I've seen Joe Biden eating there as well as one of the owners of Twin Lakes Brewery.
