Seafood City Ugh! I went twice. First time fried flounder, which was mushy. Second time was steamed shrimp....mushy!
Roma was the place to go and it was the only Italian restaurant around 20 years ago, or more. I hate to say this, but the Olive Garden has better Italian. I always try to support local, and typically don't like chains....but......
Annie....have you been to the Cultured Pearl in Rehoboth? I've been hearing raves about that place, and I know they closed and are opening across the street....Baltimore Avenue? or someplace?
For crabs, or a crab cake sandwich, and local gossip, I love Sambos!
For a family affair or group....crabs, hodge podge buckets, and swamp water, I love The Boondocks
For beer, snacks and live music.... JW's at the Hamlet in Dover, and JP's on the Wharf in North Bowers
Top of the Sheraton was our hangout every Friday night for many years, and they had a nice buffet, and we could also order from the menu. They had a DJ, or band, and a great dance floor. We haven't been in 6 months, so I don't know how it is now, or if it's still open. We had great fun there! But, I digress........

I loved JP's on the Wharf...one of our great spots to take out of towners. My friends always raved about The Boondooks.

New restaurant in Dover
I am totally impressed with McGlynns Pub and it is now my favorite restaurant in the Dover area. If you want to treat yourself or impress your family, this is the place for you.
The menu has many selections of various pricing from sandwiches to prime rib. They serve generous portions, I had corned beef and cabbage, better than grandma's, and my husband had fish and chips. Both meals were done to perfection and could have easily taken half home for the next day.
The restaurant sits on Silver Lake and they utilize their location by providing plenty of views. Honestly, the lake never looked so good. The ambiance inside is like being at an upscale resort. Lots of rich wood beams and glass windows. Its a warm and friendly place, the best in the area and I am thankful to have such a great place so close to home.

I've been to a couple McGlynn's in northern DE, and enjoyed their offerings, and am glad to read your review of this new one, PA. We'll have to try it.
I'm still offended by the ugly, out-of-place building that replaced The Blue Coat Inn, which fit the setting perfectly years ago, but as McGlynn's is only a smallish part of the new montrosity (my opinion), and since it sounds like it's lovely within, we'll give it a try. Or two. Or three!

I know two people who have been to McGlynn's.
One said they liked it and the other was not impressed.
That building is out of place and such a shame too.
I will have to check it out for myself and decide if I like it or not.

We're heading out To McGlyns Pub tonight for happy hour. May be for a younger crowd though. We'll see. I disagree strongly about the building being ugly. It is upscale on the outside as well as within. The Red Coat Inn was already gone when we arrived in the area and I'm sure there is plenty of resentment against those who loved to dine there. I agree that it's not the area I would think of for an office complex but I'm glad that The Pub is part of it and they are successful especially in this economy with so many business folding. They have drink and dining specials every night. Check online for specials, menus and pricing.

PA, tell us how your happy hour experience was, when you have a chance.
Of course, those of us who knew and loved and have many years of memories associated with The Blue Coat Inn are likely a bit biased in our assessment of the new building. The partly historic structure that housed the Inn, was a one story wood building that perfectly "hugged" and even enhanced the land at the edge of the lake. To us, the new building which tries, unsuccessfully we think, to imitate some of Dover's Georgian buildings--the architecture of that period--simply doesn't work. Too tall and too narrow for its height, and not at all in harmony with that piece of land.
My opinion, and the opinion of a lot of area people apparently, but won't keep us from trying the pub!

Hi Annie,
We were a bit disappointed in the food offerings as they only had one tray of meatballs which were tasty but cold and dry. We arrived before 5:00 and the waitress informed us that that was all they had for happy hour as far as complementary snacks. We split a nachos platter between us and I must say, my hubby was very pleased with them.
IMHO happy hour is not worth it but we will continue to have dinner there. I also recommend the dining room section as opposed the bar area if you want a quieter atmosphere for dining. May require reservations in advance though as the dining room does fill up quickly. There are some tables situated outdoors, should be lovely in the summer.

What are the name of a few mexican food "chain restaurants" in DE? I've heard of Casa Gallardo, Don Pablos, On the Border, Chipotle, etc. but don't know if they are in DE. Any "wing" restaurants?

Mexican, I go to La Toleca on Philadelphia Pike, prices are excellent. They're always busy, which says alot. Wings, I'm not a big fan of wings, to messy for me. Wings to go has several locations... I'm certain you'll be hearing from the "wings" fan club out there.
