Help!!! Need info about Smyrna areas before making an offer on a house!
Over the past week my husband and I have been looking for areas to live in and near Smyrna. My husband is starting a job in New Castle County at the end of January. We are trying to buy a house quickly so that my husband is not commuting from PA where we now live (almost an hour and half drive). We are looking at some houses in Eagles Chase (Eagles Way), Worthington (off Brenford Rd) and also on Holden Ct. in Clayton. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with these areas. Is it safe, any problems in these areas, are these areas considered Smyrna School District, ect? We are looking at one house very seriously and need to make a decision soon. Any info you could give would be helpful! Thanks so much!

There is a thread down farther on this page that say's Thinking of Smyrna that has a lot of info about Smyrna, also do a search, I've seen a lot about Smyrna, and more than likely you get answers from the crew early in the morning, they are early risers. I would help ya but I haven't moved to DE yet. Good luck!

Thanks Laural! I have already checked the info on the Smyrna threads but I didn't see anything on the 3 areas I was asking about. Hopefully "the crew" will be able to give me some answers!

I am not too familiar with neighborhoods in Smyrna, but Delly and a few others are. They will pipe in soon, I'm sure.
As far as the school district, you can go on the DE dept of ed website and try to map a property address.. we were able to do that when searching last summer. We were targeting the Caesar Rodney school district, as one of our son's has autism. I believe the mapping is totally functional throughout Kent County.
Our landlord lives in Smyrna, and I will be talking to him in the morning; I'll ask him about the neighborhoods you mentioned and get back to you.

eastcoastmama,
I did finally talk to our landlord, but he had to go before I could ask him about the neighborhoods you mentioned. Don't know if you'd be interested, but the landlord happens to be the sales manager of a mortgage company (PM me if you'd like to know more). You may already have that part of the process tended to.
Hope you were able to check out other sources regarding these neighborhoods.

Brenford Road has a lot of new developments going up and it is right outside the Town of Smyrna. Nice Area!
Eagle Chase is reasonably priced, but right on the main road. Houses don't have a lot of room in the back yard. Not as safe as the other 2. Police Station is about 2 blocks up (across the street from a run-down neighborhood).
Clayton area is peace and quiet, lots of land.
If you are looking for investment, Brenford Road homes usually keep up or exceed their value.
Clayton is usually a home you'll retire in.
