I am looking to move to DE and have been looking in the MOT area and Smyrna. We have 2 children age 10 and 5. The 5 year old has Autism and will needspecial education. Here is my dilemma the homes in Smyrna are more affordable (under300K) for the same homes in Middletown (~400K) but I see that the Appo schooldistrict is higher ranked. I need advice from parents in both districts whereshould I go?

My sister's kids have attended Appo schools for the past few years and she LOVES the district. She is very particular too. Appo is better than Smyrna, for sure. However, Smyrna is not a horrible district---there are much worse in Delaware. I'd say it's middle of the road, whereas Appo is top notch.

Our kids went to Smyrna, and we were well satisfied. They went on to earn their Bachelors and one, his Masters. Hubby and I also went there, and loved it.

I'm out of the loop as far as comparing Smyrna with Appoquinimink, as far as academics go. I do know, that Smyrna School District has more pride than any other school in the State of Delaware. They are die-hard Smyrna fans, and parents are very much involved in their childrens' education process. They just had another "I Love Smyrna Day" and they've had them in the past. I admire that school district for their student-teacher-parent relationships, and how they've instilled pride in their schools. It's one big happy family there.

Are you familiar with Great Schools? Delaware Schools - Delaware State School Ratings - Public and Private A lot of househunters across the country seem to use it for comparison and general information.
