Hey so we finally hammered down a location in Delaware to move to... an unincorporated area outside of Middletown - does anyone have real numbers of some of the costs we should expect for Trash collection, water which I think is Artesian... sewer I assume is New Castle County and anything else I can expect.

Thanks....

I would think an area realtor would know the different suppliers of various services and give you a list of who to call and ask directly for quotes.

Sometimes a home owners' association will have an agreement with a trash collection company for a reduced rate. That's what was in place when we moved into our area. However, when we needed to have recycling picked up every week, we switched companies; and, by paying for the entire year when signing up, we got a reduced rate and no deposit needed for the trash and recycling cans.

Determine what your needs are before signing up with any company, including how many collections you need per week.

I have some numbers, but I am in Kent County. Maybe these will be a starting point for you:
We live in a small town in Kent County, with public utilities.
House built in late 1800's and is in the $200,000 price range.
PER YEAR:
Sewer/Water $563.88 (I water lots of flowers all summer long)
Electric (Delmarva Power) $1,820.23
Kent County Taxes $288.32 (with Sr. Citizen School Discount)
Town Taxes $638.28 (which includes 2 x week trash, recycle, and yard waste pickup) and 24 hour police protection. (They park in the lot next door, many times)
Oil Heat, Winter of 2014-15 - $2,150 (we have electric hot water)
We have no homeowners association, and there are no other fees.

other than:
Comcast Internet and T.V. $160 per month Basic (varies depending if we purchase pay-per-view specials)
We mow our own grass consisting of .27 acre. Neighbor kids mow grass for $10/week if we don't feel up to it. They do a great job, trimming and all. We shovel our own snow, as needed, but neighbor kids do that too, for $10.

We pay $236 per year for one pickup of trash and recycling per week. Should have put that in my previous post. The other company that we were with picked up trash once a week and recycling every other week and we paid $78 per quarter and they added a gas surcharge.
