Hi Everyone,
Hubby and I have another trip planned next weekend to DE. This time we are headed to Rehoboth Beach/Lewes. We hope to make this a full weekend trip! I am crossing my fingers that the weather will be nice. I will let everyone know how it goes. Thank You again for all the great feedback/info.
Tabitha

Default Lewes area is great!

You should check out Oakwood Village in Lewes! (Oakwood Village at Lewes - Welcome) Its a custom home community with a small home town feel that is 15 minutes to either Rehoboth Beach or Lewes! Lewes is a really charming town that although it still has a lot of small town charm, is big on activities! (And the Ferry will take you to Cape May NJ quickly if you are drawn to adventure there.)

Lewes has a lot of diversity in restaurants, shops and overall lifestyle. (This is not WV!) The schools are very good as well!

Good Luck in your search! (Let me know where you decide upon!)

Personally, we regret moving here and wished we stayed up in NJ, but now we're settled in, so we can't just pick up and move.
That is so funny. It is true people on the eastern shore of Delaware and Maryland are not usually "friendly" and from my opinion the "gawk" is because they are trying to observe you first. Usually people don't wave hi unless they know you and sometimes the "gawk" is because they are trying to place you and see if they do know you. I think also some of that eastern shore mentality is because they don't want to be overly friendly to invade your space either. It is a matter of respect. It is also a need for thier space as well since so many people from New Jersey and New York have been invading their space. So, take it from someone who has lived in many places but grew up in Delaware (70's through 2001) If you want "friendly" outgoing hospitality Delawareans are friendly but not in the way that many New Yorkers, New Jersey or even some southerners are. I have lived just south of Atlanta, GA now.
I know I used to probably be the "gawker" because I can remember visiting other places and thinking how can these people just come up to you and wave at you, "I don't know them do, I?" I can't image though with so many people from New York and New Jersey moving to the Delaware beaches that you could not find some transplants to all hang out and be "friendly" like you are used to. It is true Delawareans won't roll out the red carpet for you but I think they are still friendly in a reserved way.

If you would have had the opportunity to see what happened today at a restaurant in Dover, you would have seen a red carpet welcome for me, a born and raised New Yorker, that was a genuine expression of friendship that impressed me in a most profound way. If today's welcome is any indication, I'd have to consider your statement above as incorrect.

In my visits to Delaware, I find myself becoming involved in friendly conversations with total strangers who by the end of the conversation, I feel like I've known for years. It's a truly unique experience ... and I have to admit that I really do like the style.

When I leave here Friday, I have lots of tangible evidence as well as beautiful memories of a red carpet welcome second to none.

Maybe I've just met the right people. If true ... I hope I keep meeting them

Charley

I am glad to hear that you have had a positive experience in my home state. Perhaps people are getting used to you "foreigners" from PA, New Jersey and New York

Well there sure have been enough of us all.

My only hope is that we come down and assimiliate into what is ... and not try to change it. It's right the way it is which is what attracts me.

[De is a friendly state. I notice that when we would come down to check out communities.
Glad you had unique experience. It certainly has been great for us. When I tell people about this, they say how did you meet these people. gotta love DE.

You will keep meeting them. By the time you get down here, you may be the mayor. LOL You got my vote

I wonder if anyone has ever done a survey on the friendly states. I love Delware I grew up there and spent most of my adult life there but not sure what the survey would say
