Portions of coastal Route 1 closed to flooding - CapeGazette.com - Covering Delaware's Cape Region - Inland Bays, Atlantic Ocean, Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Milton, Dewey Beach, USA

As I walked my dogs this morning and we had to make several changes to our route due to flooded streets. I thought of posting about it. However so few seem interested in the Long Neck area I decided not to bother. Seeing this all too common headline I feel it necessary to again say "come check out the area that interests you under all conditions. The expense of 1 or 2 trips you did not feel were necessary might seem very cheap in hindsight.

As an Emergency Preparedness worker during Sandy on LI., I can tell you there is never enough said and unless they get hit 2 or 3 times they still choose to ignore the warnings.

I had a man come up to me in a shelter on the day after the storm after he was rescued by the Fire Dept. He had on flip flops, a bathing suit and no shirt and had a blanket wrapped around his shoulders and his dog. My family lives in the area and were told to evacuate by 8 p.m. Sunday. This was Tuesday. When I asked if he received the reverse 911 call he responded, "Yes, but what they say never happens, so I decided to stay home. Suffice to say the water was over his front door by a foot and he has 5 steps into his home. When it was safe the F.D. rescued him (and tons of others) by extending the ladder up to his front door and climbing in to get him. Some will never learn.
