The News Journal in Delaware is published by the same company that publishes our Journal News in New York. I absolutely agree with you about their credibility, accuracy and their own agenda.
As far as crime stats, the relatively small size of Delaware skews most statistics in a way that makes them less relevant than in a larger sized state.

I was very happy in thinking that because of Delaware size the numbers are skewed, then I came across the crime map of New Castle County (where I will be living) and it shows on a map by address where a crime was reported, murders, burglaries, car thefts etc. If you can convince me again that it's really not that bad, PLEASE DO, seriously, I would much rather go back and think the numbers are skew, then walk around being paranoid. I will be living in an area there aren't a lot of murders, but I really not thrilled with burglaries, car thefts, and criminal mischief either, and this is going on in nice communities. Do they have neighborhood watches there?

Laural.........The numbers are not skewed! I have a family member in the FBI and went over this subject with him. Wilmington (the City) is bad! And, as I said..... when I was up there 2-3 weeks ago, there were memorials from drive-by shootings....many, within a few block radius. This was in the north Wilmington area. You are going to have to ride around the area in question, yourself, I think, then make your decision. I don't know about neighborhood watches, but I never saw any signs saying there were any. The areas change from block to block, in regard to safety.

Yup, unfortunately I totally agree with you. But I'm open if anyone wants to change my mind, ignorance is bliss The good thing is I'm not moving to Wilmington, that's way to scarey for me. We are looking at Newark, Middletown, we were looking at Bear and New Castle city, but after looking at the crime map we changed our minds, we would only consider it if the home was right near the canal. Even Newark is ify. Middletown was a shock to me, seeing all the crime reports, it was very depressing. It almost made me change my mind about moving to DE, but I guess with the moving trucks coming on Tuesday it's a little late whatcha think . So we will be homeless until we find and close on a house. I have to go shopping this week for pants and a coat for our flight next Saturday. Would it be a lot to ask for it to warm up to oh say 50's? I would like to ease into freezing my arse off.
