Quick question regarding unemployment. I know in DE you can earn up to 1/2 of your max benefit and not lose any benefits payout on unemployment. I'm wondering if there is any way earning a small amount of money could be detrimental to me in any way? For instance, I know with Social Security they average your income for the past X months to calculate your benefit. If I earned ~$50 for one odd job would that ever affect a future calculation? If so, the $50 is obviously not worth the hassle and I'll just tell the company not to pay me.

Your unemployment benefit is based on your total earning in a Quarter. You must report that $50 when filing for the week in which you earned it.

Your call in (or go online) and report what you earn every week. Let's say your benefit amount is $300 and you earn $100 that week....you can earn up to half of your max benefit ($150 if you get $300) and still receive your entire $300. So....you could earn up to $150 a week and still receive your $300 on top of that without being penalized. They match it dollar for dollar after you have earned more than half your max benefit amount. It's definitely worth it to do some side/part-time work while collecting unemployment....
