Hi we are trying to research a nice family area to move to with our children. We currently live in NJ and my husband is transfering to a job in wilmington, de and I will be working in new castle, de. we are looking to both be within a 35 minute commute, he is willing to be up to 45 min. We have two small children 5, and 6. So we need good schools, nice, safe neighborhood. We want to be able to be at stores within 30 minutes but live in a quiet suburb areas with lots of open land. We are looking for 3 - 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, basement and nice size property. We are looking to spend less than 325,000 if possible. Any advice or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks. We are just not sure what towns to look into first.

I'm moving to DE too, I'm happy to pass along my tools to help you with research areas. Zillow.com, (make sure you click on bird eye view to see the best view of the yard) realestateabc.com (awesome website with neighborhood comps) Geo NCC Locations (http://www.nccde.org/sqlcrime.asp - broken link) (crime map, put in an address of a house your interested and it will tell you the latested reported crimes in that neighborhood)

My personal opinion after seeing the crime map for Bear and New Castle City, I've scratched them off my list. Check out Newark.

Hi Donnasteidle and welcome to the DE forum..

I moved to Magnolia two years ago. It is a lovely town with many new subdivisions but there are also many established neighborhoods here as well that are within your price range.
We are in Caesar Rodney School district. You can read postings by Marych regarding the schools and I have given lots of detail about the area we reside.
Magnolia is just south of Dover which an easy commute from New Castle on RT 1. It may a bit further timewise but might be worth a look. Target and Super Walmart are 10 minutes and so is grocery shopping. Dover Mall has Sears, J.C. Penney , Macys and Boscovs and is 15 minutes from here.
Outlets are nearby as well. Best to go there during the week or off season as they are near the Delaware Beaches.
Good Luck !

Northern Delaware it's hard to say so good luck. Central Delaware out of Dover city the crime is non-stop. For the best school in Central Delaware then you want to be in the Caesar Rodney school districts. The Delaware newspapers might be of help especially when checking crime information etc. Homepage - Dover, DE - Dover Post comes out Wednesdays but accessible usually after 9pm on Tuesday nights. Newszap.com you can only get the classifieds now without paying for a subscription. You might have to google search it as newszap classifieds. It is a daily paper. The northern paper would be delawareonline.com | The News Journal | Wilmington news, community, entertainment, yellow pages and classifieds. Serving Wilmington, DE

Good luck

Although being a Realtor, my post could be considered self-serving .... I assure OP that my statements here are from my heart and not from my wallet (lol).

With the paramenters including purchase price that you have included .... there are several communities that will meet your criteria. So you can feel secure that the move is not going to be anxiety-ridden. Crime statistics that out of staters (on this forum) cite does not reveal that they take place in areas most reasonable people would never be near...those areas exist in all towns or cities.

Your DH can access New castle for job from almost anywhere in the NCCo (New Castle County) within 30 minutes on any given day unless you start living in areas south of Smyrna or Townsend.

What you consider a nice size lot? 1 acre, 1/2 acre, 1/4acre .....2 acres
