Milton police crack down on traffic violations | Cape Gazette

Do Milton police target volunteer firemen?? Should firemen display emergency lights on personal vehicles when responding to alarms?

I actually thought they were required by law to display emergency lights on personal vehicles when responding.
Some, I have noticed, seem to live for the chance.

I personally know Indian River VFC members who use them when responding.

You are correct. State law requires that all emergency vehicles, including authorized private vehicles, be equipped with some sort of warning lights. The color and type of lights varies, depending on the type of vehicle. Don't recall the specific requirement for fire vehicles, but it should be easy enough to look up. Some jurisdictions require that such vehicles be under the control of a dispatcher so there is a record of where, when, and who was on a "code" run.

Firefighters having emergency lights on personal vehicles is the discretion of the authority having jurisdiction of the fire department. Fire departments have policies in place where emergency lights are not permitted on personal vehicles, and members report to their station first when responding to calls.
