Commute Time (Lewes to Northern Delaware)
My girlfriend and I are thinking about moving to Lewes Delaware later this year. I work in IT and I see most of the jobs in Delaware are in Wilmington, Newark, and Dover. MapQuest has the trip to Dover at about 40miles/50 minutes, the trip to Newark at about 83 miles/90 minutes, and the trip to Wilmington at about 90 miles/95 minutes. It looks like most of the drive would be on 1. I've seen other posts on here saying that 1 is generally a pretty smooth drive. When we were in Lewes it took us about an hour to get to Newark. Now granted that wasn't to get into the city. I was curious if anyone could offer any information about the commute time and drive with work traffic from Lewes to these locations.

It does matter where you're starting from within a city, and where your destination is in the other city.
We live in north Dover. From our driveway and onto Route 1 (10 minutes away) it takes about 55 minutes for us to get into the center of Lewes. Again from north Dover, it takes an hour for us to get to Newark--into Newark, to around the U of DE campus. On the other hand, some parts of Newark are closer: it takes a little less time to drive to Christiana Hospital, for example.
From our house to almost anywhere in Wilmington, not the outskirts, we plan on about an hour and 15 minutes. (Driveway to a parking place.) I dislike the northern portions of the drive, but it is usually manageable, depending on the time of day.
Have to admit that I stay pretty close to the actual speed limit, though on Route 1, you have to take it up a little or they tend to run over you! I've seen some horrendous accidents, and definitely am not one of those drivers who seem to have their own personal speed limits.

beware of how long those trips might take during the summer months as beach traffic can drasticly affect commute times on 1 -13 or 113.

In addition, Coastal Highway, from Nassau Bridge south to Rehoboth is under construction, and has been for a year. I'm hoping they have it completed by Memorial Day, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I travel from Dover to Rehoboth, Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island every week, at least once. Even on weekdays now, with warmer weather, I'm hitting traffic backups. I allow an extra half hour to get down there, and through that construction. You have to be really careful because the bus lane on the right near the outlets is not a traveling lane for us. But, many cars wiz by me in that lane. This spring, again, I'm going to start taking the back way to the beach, which is from Milford, Route 30/Route 5, Route 9, behind Lowes near The Plantations. That's always been a time saver for me, plus it's safer and less stressful. Even without that road construction there were always backups during peak times.

We came down 3 or 4 years ago. Route 1 then was a mess. We were on our way to visit bay homes. Took us forever just to go 2 blocks.
That is what made me realize, that area was not for us. I would have dropped dead with a stroke.

There is no way I would do the commute from Lewes to Newark or Wilmington on a daily basis. In the summer - allow 2 hours. During rush hour the traffic at the exchange between I-95 and Rte 1 (if you are going into/out of the city of Wilmington) gets pretty backed up as well. Dover is probably do-able, however.
