You are so right about the peninsula. It is great!! coming from Philadelphia, we love it.
we live in Southern Meadows community. Can't wait for the summer when the pool opens.
Last Feb we moved down and have been exploring De from north to south, east to west.
so much to do and see. Love the rural areas with farms. Like going back in time.
A stones throw from the beachs too. I'm in heaven.

De is becoming the new Florida.

Very good doctors and hospitals in the area. Two food stores being built within 5 miles of Independnence opening in early summer.
You sound like me last year. I was bubbling over with happiness. So excited to be here. We moved last Feb. Can't believe it is a year already.
Welcome to DE.

Any close shopping in Millsboro? (malls and grocery)
good restaurants?
Do they have any kind of pour neighbourhoods in that area, low-class apartments complexes, project housing?
Any knowledge on local school?

You are not far from Salisbury either. There is loads of shopping and restaurants there as well. Sadly, not tax free though

Hello jcw, my husband and I are currently checking into "Independence". I am curious as to how you feel your purchase progressed with both Ocean Atlantic and Schell Builders.

We bought in Long Neck Shores. It's not 55+ but in speaking with some residents, the majority of the population seems to be in that range. I heard there are only a few families with children. We actually love children and were not looking for that specifically.
We've been plotting our escape from NJ for about 2 years now, doing a lot of research on the area, etc. Watching prices go UP and DOWN, trying to find just the right place at a price we could afford, etc. We love the beach, fishing, crabbing, etc. so this will be great for us. As far as traffic, just try to stay away from the beach on weekends. During the week, it's no big deal.
My DH is retiring and I can telecommute, with taxes so high in NJ, it seemed like a no-brainer. But now that we did it, I'm excited/scared/nervous. This is also the farthest we've ever moved from our families, so I understand why you say it feels scary. Well, I'm hoping that my home in NJ sells quickly and that I won't have to give it away. That's SCARY.
Angie
Hi Angie,

How's the house sale going? We're in PA and our house has been on the market for almost a year. It's putting quite a kink in our plans to get to the beach in DE! I keep wondering if it's ever going to really happen and then get scared when I think it might. Best of luck with you house sale and your new house! Hope all goes well for you.

Nancy (aka Ocean Seeker)

Default Nothing yet

Nancy,
we only have the house on the market about 2 weeks. Had an open house, 4 couples came looking. No offers..... We're in a good position in that we've lived in this house for over 25 years. We still have a small mortgage, and no way we'll get what we could have gotten a few years ago, but then again, we would have paid more for the house in Delaware. So, we'll be OK. Waiting until June to see whether we get some bites on our home. If not, we'll drop the price and see what happens.

I know taxes are high in PA. We're paying close to $8K per year! So even if we take a hit on selling in NJ, we're still going to come out ahead. And may I say that my house in NJ is a small boring little ranch. I'll likely sell it for the same price that my new beautiful house in millsboro will cost but I won't have $8K in taxes.
Angie

The Peninsula is absolutely beautiful, isn't it? That community is like a fortress, too. Whenever I'm there on work, the guard at the gate sends me to the construction trailer for a pass, which involves letting them make a copy of my driver's license, and filling out a form with my tag number, reason for visit, estimated length of visit, etc. They're writing some good deals in there, these days, as developers are everywhere. Saw a lot for sale in The Peninsula....by owner, $275,000.
