My husband has reminded me that U of Delaware has (or had) a wonderful landscape design program in conjunction with Longwood Gardens, which is close by in Pennsylvania. Check Longwood Gardens website.

Newark consists of 1 street that is about 1000 feet long and crime is on the rise as well as tuition. There is not a single ounce of culture there, go somewhere else if you can. What is your major?

Default Belated thanks to everyone

Sorry for a belated thanks to everyone here. I didn't visited city-data for some time b/c I am still waiting for decision letter from UD anxiously. I am already prepared that my son may be rejected. We didn't expected that UD is so competitive, said to have some 25000 applications for freshmen!

JeanF, nice to know that you seem like Hong Kong quite a lot. One big difference between Hong Kong and many parts in the States is that we can go everywhere, including the New Territories and Outlying Islands by public transport easily. Therefore, many people in Hong Kong don't drive. All members in my family don't know how to drive but I think it is quite impossible in the States.

Best wishes to all of you!

HKmom, best wishes to your son that he gets that acceptance letter soon, waiting is no fun and we'll be rooting for him, it'll be very exciting time in his life but hopefully he'll make a smooth transition and all will go well, good luck!

Yes HKMom - good luck to your son.

I just got my acceptance letter to Delaware (chem eng.)

I'll be visiting the campus in the next month to try to make the "right" decision among my choices.

Yes! Congratulations to you! You probably know more than I do about this, but dormitories go fast at UD (and on other campuses, as well). My granddaughter is going to college in Pittsburg and dorm rooms are at premium, already. Seems upper class men get first choice. I never understood that, and thought the newbies should be housed first.
Good Luck to you! Enjoy!

HKmom, Good luck. I spent spring break with the proud parents of a UD student. She absolutely loves it there.

I think the U of D is a good school. I don't think there is that much to do on the weekends but drink at the bars (just what I've observed). I don't think it's a super safe campus either. Not terrible, but the crime rate isn't low either. I have known a person who was shot on Madison street (NEVER rent there), gotten their face broken on main street, and there have been lots of rapes. There are a bunch of rapes that happen a lot there as well. but all in all, I don't think it's more dangerous than some cities if not maybe less.

I am a UD grad and my daughter graduated two years ago from UD. Son is on his way to Rowan University.........and I would have loved it if he had also attended Delaware. I was an Elementary Ed major and my daughter majored in Athletic Training. UD is a great school. No regrets here!
