Hi-
DH (51) & I (47) are starting to research a move from the Rochester, NY area. Fed up with the insane property taxes but realize no place is perfect. A few acquaintances have moved to DE over the past 5 years (Briar Hook I believe and Newark areas) and have been very positive in their choices.

Our son (20) will be out of college in 2 years and already has been working internationally over the summers, we have no close family here and want to be somewhere that we can enjoy the 4 seasons. Job wise-we need to find an area close to a hospital or medical laboratory (his career) and also hospice or community based healthcare (my career). I've really only seen Delaware Hospice mentioned and wonder if anyone has had any experience working for them or in the hospice realm at any hospitals.

Also, we are coming from a home in a small HOA community here where we pay a very modest $190/mth to cover every single thing outside (roof, gutter replacement/cleaning, siding, exterior trim, garage doors, mowing, mulching, trimming, weeding, tree trimming, snow removal from drive & walk, blacktop sealing, driveway & sidewalk replacement, trash removal). However, our taxes are going to go over 5K this year and we only own 6 inches beyond our 1200 sq. ft. home. Do many areas in DE have HOA communities with reasonable fees? We aren't looking for something with a clubhouse or golf fees so I have no idea how to research this.

Also, I started doing some general searching on a realtor website and found that many homes have septic and well water...is this common in certain areas? We owned a large property for many years with septic and really don't want to go back to that. Are there areas where we can look that have public sewer and water?

I appreciate those who are reading all of my questions--thanks for your time!
Karen

I am a Long Islander who moved to the beach 4.5 years ago so I am not going to be a big help other than to offer you a link to the real estate for sale in New Castle county. IF you select a home and scroll down you will get the details in terms of HOA fees and amenities if any. Happy hunting.

There are many areas upstate which would suit your needs.Down state here in the beach area where I live we have only one immediate hospital and local ambulances will not take you anywhere else. A job at beBee and hookup with one of many Drs associated would put you in a great area.

I am trying very hard to make Delaware my home. Been up and down the state many times. Visiting again this weekend. Suggest you start with the Newark area. Keep in mind lots of medical in Philly. Some of the best teaching hospitals in the country are in Philly.
