Are you recommending Barrett's Run or saying to stay away? Just curious b/c I am considering moving there.

Prices for apartments in Newark/New Castle/Bear are all about the same... regardless of how old the complex is!
1 bdrm - 850-950
2 bdrm - 900-1100
If you just looked at Apartmentratings.com, you would think that all the places are horrible. The truth is not all of the places are ratholes. Visit them yourself to take a look.
Barrett's Run is in a good location and the units are relatively new, but the units that were available when I looked last month had 4 air conditioning units sitting outside the master bedroom window. I'm not sure what it'll sound like in the summer but I wasn't planning on finding out!

What does "sitting outside the master bedroom window" mean? Did you mean the units were sitting on the ground outside unplugged? Or did you mean they were properly installed/working, but their mere presence suggested the units lacked central air conditioning?

Overall, for the money, I still think the Apartments at Pike Creek are pretty nice. For the time we've spent in northern DE, there are not many other places I would have thought about moving (maybe a few in PA).

rent as close to main street as you can. But, AVOID Madison ave like the plague. I knew someone who was shot at there and another got beaten up badly, there are drug houses. The apartments behind the music buillding area at the U of D are good and safe. Anyone know what they're called?
