Question Apts in safe neighborhoods around Newark?

Hello,

I'm planning to come to DE in May to look at apartments, but am posting today to ask for feedback on the neighborhoods of some of the apartments I'm considering. It's a long list, so if readers would at least point out which I should AVOID AT ALL COSTS that would be super helpful. I'm not after luxury; just want something safe (I'm a single female). THANK YOU!

Oaktree Apts - Wenark Dr, Newark
Cavalier Country Club Apts - Golfview Dr, Newark
Glen Eagle Village - Sandalwood Dr, Newark
Drummond Hill - Sheldon Dr, Newark
Spring Run - Greenbridge Dr, Newark
Elms Luxury Apts - London Way, Newark
Foxwood - Fox Hall, Newark
Towne Court - Thorn Ln, Newark
Prides Court - Sussex Rd, Newark
Chelsea on the Square - Winterhaven Dr, Newark
Arundel Apts, Crossfork Dr, Wilmington
Apple Chase - Ashkirk Dr, Newark
Iron Hill - Burleigh Ct, Newark

Please stay away from Chelsea, Iron Hill, The Vinings, Apple Chase, Spring Run.
Although there are many conveniences and shopping nearby, you don't want to live there. And please - stay away from the complexes off Rt 40 and Smalley Dam Road because of Drugs and Crime

Thanks...this is causing me to nearly pass out from sticker shock. I really did not think I'd have to pay another $300-$400/month when moving from Madison WI to Newark!

Of the ones I am familiar with, Drummond Hill is probably OK. I would stay away from Towne Court... lots of crime there and they're just old and dilapidated.

The rents within the city limits of Newark are high because of the high demand for student housing at the University of Delaware.

Good luck.

Thanks! Yeah, since I live in a major university town now, I guess I just didn't expect it to be THAT much higher! Yikes!
