If you want good Amish food, Bylers Store on Rt. 8 west of Dover is great.
I've seen, first hand, much of the Amish food prepared, because I visit their homes almost every week. Some of it is good, other I wouldn't touch. The baked goods, candy, jams-jellies, etc. are not inspected by any regulatory agency. As far as quality, when Bylers had their first, modest store at Pearson's Corner, 20 years ago or more, I liked it better. Now, Byler's is quite commercial, and the owner is "borderline" Amish. But, I will give them credit. They've found their niche and are making money on that quaintness.

Yesterday, I was a Fifer's Orchards, about 1.5 miles from us. I bought some wonderful fresh asparagus, and we had peach ice cream cones on their new covered porch.

MMmmm...you are making me miss Kent County. I remember Byler's when it was at Pearson's Corner. Lived in Marydel a short time. You are right, they've found their niche.

Went to church with the Fifer's...long time ago. Our family loved going there during whatever season. Gosh I miss going to get fresh asparagus. I haven't found any farms with asparagus down here. I guess I'll have to plant my own, I understand it takes a couple years to get a crop off of it.

I just planted tomatoes, cabbage, peppers and cucumbers. first time ever so wish me luck.
I like Bylers cuz they have every grain you can think of. If you can't get it in the market, go to bylers and you will find it.
I need to get to Fifers, their fruits and veggies are great. I keep forgetting about them.
Also,
Spencers bazzar has great food too. you can eat it there or bring it home. I believe it is run by Amish.
Delly, I would think Amish food is pure and wholesome they way food is supposed to be. They raise most of it themselves don't they?

Yes, they grow everything themselves. The preparation of food they sell is done by many, including very small children. Need I say more? As I said, I'm in one of their homes on the average of 3-4 times/month.

This year I just planted tomatoes and herbs. The garden was getting a little too big and too much work so this year we cut out some veggies.
