no idea, i only buy food in DE, this is the first i heard that our grocery's are expensive....

Do you have Costco there?
Are there farmer's markets somewhere in northern Delaware where farmers set up with fresh produce?
I did look up Trader Joe's, and Wilmington has one. Whole Foods I could not find, but probably have luck in DC or Philly with that.
Yes we have like 2 walmarts and a costco up north here, AND a farmer's market in new castle. many people probably will say the NC Farmer's Market is gross and full of undesirables but i go there (i hope im not a undesirable ) and there are quite a few unique places for food, there is a produce stand always stocked with fresh stuff and a dutch meat market which has some REALLY great meats and deals.

Na what would be funnier is if you were planning on setting them up on a blind date in hopes that they would fall in love and get married. hehehehe

Back to the original post:
Compared to Northern California, I think groceries here are cheap! You'll end up paying quite a bit more at Whole Foods than any of the other places. Trader Joes would be nice, but I don't consider it a complete "grocery store".

Here's my opinion of grocery chain pricing in DE.

From Most Expensive to Least Expensive
Thriftway/Individually owned
Safeway
Acme & Pathmark (Tie)
Walmart

No experience with Giant and SuperFresh
