Question Which is a nicer place to live? Milford or Magnolia?

My family and I are relocating from Long Island NY to Delaware. We have 2 school age girls. Which area is nicer and which has better schools? Milford or Magnolia? Any help, information or advice would be greatly appreciated. We're coming down in mid-April to go house hunting.

Hi, I live in magnolia. Either Milford or Magnolia are nice rural quiet towns.
There is a boom in the housing business around us. A load of beatiful brand new homes going up everywhere.
Glad you are coming to look and good luck in finding what you want.

Milford is small, but quite a lot larger, many more stores, than Magnolia. It's quite isolated. Magnolia may not have much going on, but it's close to Dover. Check out Camden, a stone's throw from Dover, and the Caesar Rodney school system. We've lived in Dover for a long time, and used to have friends, long ago, in Milford, but I don't know anything about the schools there these days.

As far as the town goes, downtown Magnolia is so small if you blink you'll miss it. There is a fire house, a post office, a furniture store and a restaurant. and of course the Town Hall which is the size of a shed. No kidding that's it. We do all our shopping in Dover and Camden which are 10 minutes away. I would check the Milford schools to make a fair comparison.

I like Magnolia. I don't like to drive and it's very easy for me to take State Street up to the Dover Mall and other stores.

It depends on what you're looking for. The Town of Magnolia is a dot surrounded by quite a few newer subdivisions. There is only residential housing in the Town of Magnolia, and a small shopping center outside of town. The closest gasoline station to Magnolia has a sign up saying "Happy Gas". Dover is about 15-20 minutes away from the Town of Magnolia, depending on your destination. The Magnolia area has been targeted as the Kent County Growth Zone, as outlined in Kent County's Comprehensive Building Plan. Many new houses are there, with many more coming fast. Most people really like the area, and it's in the Caesar Rodney School District.

The City of Milford is south of Magnolia, half in Kent County and half in Sussex County, divided by the Mispillion River. Both areas have newer subdivisions, and the City of Milford has more to offer than Magnolia.....compared to where you're from, probably not much though. Milford is in demand because it's about 20-25 minutes to Lewes and the Atlantic Ocean, and even closer to Bay communities. There are local shopping centers there, fast food places, a couple nice restaurants, and a home town atmosphere. They have local events such as the "Riverwalk Festival", a huge community parade Halloween week, and more. Milford has a different school district called......The Milford School District! I'd be glad to answer any specific questions.

Delly, you lifelong Delawarean you , you're an absolutely amazing source of information, even for someone (me) who has lived around half her life in Delaware! (Dover)

I never knew, for instance, that Milford was half in Kent and half in Sussex. I wish I could set aside more time to read, because I'm sure your past and present posts contain immense amounts of good info.

Question: have you ever found a really good, unbusy alternate route to Rehoboth (and general area) once the beach traffic starts? We've plotted a few of them over the years, and some used to work pretty well, but not anymore. We get into traffic jams eventually.

I would like to hear the answer to this too.

We usually visit Rehobeth and Lewes after labor day and before memorial day. Try to avoid that area in the summer.
this is why we didn't move there. was a nice community in Lewes but I knew the summer traffic would drive me NUTS.......
