Kent County Tax Bill Rec'd - 1% increase over last year
For those not knowing, school taxes vary, depending upon which school district you live in

10% is significant. Please keep us appraised regarding other increases.

As for Kent county. Will it follow suit in due time?

Build it and they will come...

Kent Co. Capital School District taxes went up about $110. That's just the school tax part. Rest (trash, library, street lights, county, etc) stayed about the same. Thank you SO very much to those people who voted for the referendum. (That was sarcastic, BTW.) Overall, it was about 10% increase, including the senior discount for us.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective- where you've moved from and your COL. I see that the avg. property taxes for a $250,000 home in Georgetown DE is $800, which sounds like a smoking hot deal to me! I'm guessing that school taxes are separate and probably more? There is tax relief for some seniors: https://financefiles.delaware.gov/docs/ssptc_app.pdf

Pay no attention to "averages". They don't exist, because there are too many variables....school district, size of lot (small lot vs. acreage), sq.ft.living area of home, outbuildings, basement or none, decks/porches/garages. In my line of work, I see it all.

The current law is a ten year residency requirement as of 1/1/18 for a reduction.

Property taxes in Sussex County include school taxes and county taxes. As a senior who qualifies for a 50% discount on the school tax portion of my property taxes ( up to $400) my total tax bill increased 10.6%. An increase of $30 over last year's property tax bill. Cape Henlopen School District is considered a very good school district and I don't have an issue with an extra 10.6% when that is just an additional $30 a year.

I have a lot more issues with Comcast when they want to increase my cost for internet service $20 a MONTH more with every new year for the same service.
