Default City of Dover in Full Bloom

Gorgeous 93 degree temps in the City of Dover. Flower beds are beautiful, but with this kind of weather they won't last until the end of the month for Old Dover Days.

Here is a link from the State of Delaware, which shows the Richardson Hotel. It once was where the yellow and red tulips are on the point, shown in photo #5

Thanks, raven! Do you have any photos of the Deer Park Tavern? My ancestors owned that many years ago.

Beautiful pics of pink dogwood and red bud blooms. However, has anyone else here had problems with sparse bloom on their dogwoods this year? Ours are blooming very poorly this spring, in contrast to previous years. When I walk around the neighborhood I see some examples of the same syndrome on other dogwoods, although some are blooming fine (seemingly especially the white ones). I'm not sure if our dogwoods are diseased or if this is a response to the harshness of this past winter. I'm very dismayed, however.

Yes, my dogwoods have problems. They have hardly any flowers this year. Glad you mentioned it because I was wondering if there was something wrong with just my trees.

Thanks!

Our trees are all so small/new that it's hard to tell. I'm sorry your trees aren't blooming as beautifully as they normally do. I hope it's a fluke this year.

Thanks for the replies. When I was a kid in VA/DC I don't recall these unusual instances of sparse bloom on the dogwoods, but in those days the trees were almost entirely the plain, native white varieties rather than any sort of "fancy" cultivars. Further, I've been told on good authority here that there is a "bore" insect infestation that is spreading through DE's native dogwood population and killing many of the trees. It could be a combination of insect-related weakness and the effects of the hard winter; I really don't know. Maybe a long term DE resident will have more knowledge about this.
