Does anyone have any suggestions on where to move in Delaware? I am a native Baltimorian looking for a better life for me and my family. We have a 4 year old son and we are looking for a place that is safe, friendly and that has an excellent public school district. I would prefer to be about 30 minutes from Cecil County Maryland. All suggestions are welcome-thanks.

Try private school and maybe we can talk.

Most of the school districts have received awards for excellence. Having said that, there are other options, which are: 1) school choice 2) private schools, galore. With school choice, you can live in one school district, but you are allowed to send your child to another school district if you apply for that transfer. You just pay school taxes for the district in which your property is located.

Near Cecil County, MD ...... you will need to live up near the Newark, DE area. Perhaps someone from that area will chime in. Good luck!

I have heard from several parents in my travels that the northern school districts are going through some serious growing pains these days. That, paired with budget cuts being requested right and left, concerns me as a parent of 2 kids in public school (private is not a financial option for us, as we also have one in college, and one on the the way to college in another year).

Now mind you, most of my conversations with DE parents are zoned in on special education, as our 13 year old has autism. So far, in our less than year here in midstate DE, we are VERY happy with the schools our younger 2 kids attend. Yes, it is public, and you guessed it, we are in the Caesar Rodney district.

Hopefully, parents in the northern part of the state will post more helpful information; a lot of what I just said is based on research prior to our move last summer, and seeking out other parents of special needs kids.

Mary
