We had our little doggie Hiedi for 19 years but the year before we moved, we had to put her down. Hardest thing I ever did. We had her creamated and she is with is today.
BTW, anyone see the movie Eight below? We saw that the other day. Story about huskies in the anartica. Very good and intense. Ends well though.
We started out with cats, but after our 7th dog one of the cats moved out on her on and went to the neighbors LOL The other cat went to my mom, we figured she would be happier especially since I started doing Italian Greyhound Rescue. Our little Ricci (Reechee) died before our move too I can totally sympathize it broke our hearts, he is in a giant urn on in our RV it's an Angel looking down on a Italian Greyhound. I can't look at pictures of him without crying. He was killed by a coyote and I rushed him to the vets in my arms. They put him on the ventilator but my regular vets wasn't equiped to handle his injuries, so we had a doggie ambulance take him to the advanced critical care unit one town over, and we would have done anything even mortgaged our home if would have save our little boy, but the poor little guy died. It was the saddest day in our life. It was my husbands favorite guy, he's still broken up over it.

I watched the trailer to Eight Below, I'm super sensitve when it comes to animals, I can't watch animals be put in harms way. Did anything bad happen to the dogs while they waited to be rescued. Just the idea they were left behind makes me wanna cry.

Do they have high prey drives? (not sure if they left b/c of that or just felt outnumbered ). Are any rescues? Good for you for getting involved w/ rescue, I was too back a few yrs ago but stopped fostering, am still involved to some extent but slowed down, maybe down the road). If you go out and they're home alone, do you crate them? Btw, love all your photos

The whippets have a high prey drive. But they are also pack animals and the cats were part of the pack. It wouldn't have worked if the cats came in after the dogs. I think Sierra left home because it was just to lively in our house our cats tended to like quiet and calm. Plus I developed allergies to the cats, go figure!

3 of my dogs are rescues, my Italian Greyhound Toro, he was rescued from a horrible situation at a puppymill and was ferral when I got him, he's my love bug now, Dylan our whippet, and Zoe our chinese crested. The other 3 came from breeders. Actually come to find out Dylan and Rock are littermates. The people who originally bought Dylan, abuse him and ended up getting rid of and brought him to he pound. The pound tried to adopt him out 3 times and he was returned each time, the pound got desperate and finally called whippet rescue to take him, they took him of course and figured out which breeder he came from, and it was my breeker, she called me and asked if I could get him and hold on to him until she came down to pick him up (he lived in northern CA), well we fell in love with him, and he has a forever home with us. We had to work thru some of his abuse issues but he is fine now. He is a great lure couring dog and became 20th in the US a couple of years ago.
