No manicures for me.
I can't believe what I've read on this thread. No sterilization Nail fungus Not a decent job What's a girl to do. Here in New York, nail salons have to use steralizing machines for all the tools they use. I've never had any of the problems all of you are mentioning. I'm really going to miss my nails I guess I'll just have to do them myself. Right now I have a UV gel called LCN (Light Concept Nail). It's the same stuff that dentists use to seal teeth. I go for a fill every 3-4 weeks. I can get away with it because I get permanent french, no color. It's wonderful and they haven't broken in almost 2 years. I've cooked, cleaned, gardened, you name it. Can someone tell me what it costs in DE for manicure, pedicure, anything and what type? Like in the Walmart in Camden, since that seems to be the one that is the best, but still not great. Are there better places in New Castle? If so, where? |

Have you or anyone you know used them? Are you or they happy? Do you know what they charge? Thanks for the info.

Yes, me and the girls from Southern meadows have used them. No problems so far. We get together and go up for a pedicure and I have had manicures there. First I had the gel but that was a tad expensive so now I get the acrilic. Forget how much exactly for the gel. I think it was about $37 or $42? Give or take a few dollars. Wal mart is okay but Nail pro does the delux pedicure and that is what we like. The operators are friendly and we have fun ![]() |

I am really shocked to hear that the cleanliness in the local salons is so poor. I REALLY thought I had it bad out here in WV...but the salon I use is very clean and they do my nails just the way I like them. I use the LCN also, but I get them cut super short so they look like real nails. I am rather fussy when it comes to the shape and length of my nails and have had a harder time finding a salon that will do my nails the way I want them done.
Well, looks lke one more thing to research before we move next month!!! I do have a question though... What is the style in DE for nails? Do most women do long, french or what? Tabitha |

I love LCN Nails, but nobody in Delaware does them. I contact the rep from LCN and they said I should find a place that does any UV gel because they would have the UV machines for curing. Once I find a place, then I can talk to them about getting LCN. There is no guarantee they will do it, so I might have to settle for regular gel. I've never had the regular gel and don't know how I would do with them. I won't use acrylic. Silk wraps break too easy because I use my hands for housework and such and don't wear gloves. I also break my nails on the tailgate of my minivan. In 2 years, I've broken one nail with LCN. To me, that's worth whatever it costs. I paid $100 for the original set and $50 for a fill. It's cheaper of you don't get the permanent french I try to last 3-4 weeks for the fill to save some money.

I've been reading The Local Book. Never thought I'd do that, but I want to familiarize myself with where I'm going to be living.
There is a place called Nguyen Creative Nails & Tanning, next to K-Mart in Dover. Anybody try that place? I saw there ad and they have 14 years experience. Looks like they might be professional and good. Thanks Delly, I would imagine to open in Dover Downs, they would have to be good. |

I really shouldn't participate in this thread because I gave up long ago on most of the salons around Dover for any sort of anything! Health concerns have been part of this. Luckily, I'm low maintenance, and I work at home, so don't have to please the public all that often. I'm artsy-craftsy--well, more artsy than craftsy, I hope; I pound the keys; and do all sorts of things with my hands that ruin any kind of nail decor
sooner or later, usually sooner.Tabitha, my observation of nail style in Delaware is that it varies tremendously. I used to go to a near by hair salon for trims, but the only stylist I liked moved away. Tried other places. Not happy. One thing alarms me nearly everywhere: the stylists' own styles! ![]() My hair just grows a lot of the time now, though I have been known to trim it myself. This approach is sometimes unsuccessful. ![]() |

I too, work a lot with my hands. I never wear gloves for anything. I do dishes, cleaning and gardening. My current home does not have a dishwasher, so I'm it. I also enjoy being pampered on occasion. Getting a manicure and/or pedicure also affords me another venue to have girl time with friends.![]() |
