Hi Everyone
I am recently engaged and completely lost when it comes to planning a wedding.
I am from Dover, and he is from the UK. I really didnt want a wedding in Dover but it looks like this may happen. It is going to be very hard to get all of his family from the UK down to Dover, but we cannot go there for a wedding. His family has more money to travel here than the opposite. I am happy eloping in Vegas just the two of us, but his mother wants to see a wedding. So we were talking about just inviting immediate family to Vegas but if we are going to try to coordinate a Vegas wedding for immediate family, we may as well just do that here where at least I can drive and know the area..
We are not interested in a church wedding and for the sake of simplicity- would rather have the ceremony and reception in same location. That way we dont have to worry about a bunch of his family and friends trying to get from one spot to another one less time.
Any ideas??? I also dont want to be at a legion or firehall.. My ideas are Schwartz Center, Lobby House, or the Duncan Center... I know there are some creative people out there- so lets here some ideas!

Best Wishes to You and Congratulations to the Groom!

How about Pizzadilli Winery and Vineyards, near Felton? We're having our 50th wedding anniversary there, and are renewing our vows at the Church, before the party. But when I was there to book the place, the owner pointed me to a beautiful gazebo on a pond, and asked did we want to renew our vows there. He said there are many weddings there. The vineyards cover about 110 acres, and there's a huge covered pavilion seating about 400.....not barn like, but very classy. They can divide it with drops, to make it suitable for a smaller crowd. Also, there's an area for a bar, DJ, or live band, with built in speakers/sound. And, there's a room for a smaller dinner party inside. Meals are prepared there, and served to the table, or buffet style. The pavilion and main building are surrounded by beautiful grape vineyards, and they make their wine right there.

That is our choice! Having been here since dirt, that's the only place we would go.....like you, no fire hall, Moose Club, Ruritan Club, or other will suit us. We thought of the Rollins Center at Dover Downs, but it seems a little stuffy, and very expensive. Let me know if you need more information, and I'll tax my brain to see what else there might be suitable for you. When's the wedding? Time is wastin'................

Congratulations Melissa,

Since I just moved here from the west coast, and been to Dover just once, forgive me if I vote for a Vegas wedding. I LOVE Vegas, the last time we were their we saw a couple that just got married they were riding in the gondala at the Ventian their photographer in tow, I thought it's a cliche but it's actually an awesome place to get married. Lots of photo ops, the strip is cheap and easy to get around on the double decker buses, all the buffets are fantastic, entertainment was great and lots to do, we saw the Blue Man Group last month. I know your probably looking for info on places in Dover, just couldn't resist putting in my 2 cents on "Vegas Baby". We barely had time to gamble while we were to much to do, I think we donated $40 to the casino.

Smile Wedding ideas

I like the idea Delly mentioned. The parents are travelling a far way and it sounds lovely.

Congrats Melissa... to you and hubby-to-be!

Our family is fairly new to DE, so I don't have too many ideas to throw out there. You probably know more of the options around Dover than I do, so take what I say with that in mind.

My kids and I have had an occasion to visit the Schwartz Center recently... attended a recital performed by a friend's hubby. As I understand it, the Schwartz Center has recently been renovated. I don't know what it was like in its hey day, but I think it is quite beautiful now. Depending on the number in attendance, the Schwartz might be quite a nice place to hold your wedding. And it IS within easy reach of most of the hotels in Dover!

As Delly suggested, please post a bit more info (particularly how long you have to plan), and we'll all put our collective heads together to see what we can suggest. On another note, I have some friends from the UK, so a bit of info about your future in-laws might be helpful too. Those Brits can be quite different as we all know, and that can factor in to your grand plan.
