Just used that crime thing for delmar....not much to see , few little petty crimes....
If you cant steer clear of the crime on the shore than your probabaly involved in it in some way.
IF you think you can honestly compare the traffic and state of mind of people on 95/83/795/ rt2 ..........to the shore and rt 13 than theres nothing else I can say....they are night and day and the incidence of accidents and deadly ones at that are astronomical comparitivly.

I know people with good jobs as well, but for every one person with good, well paying job there are 10 working for peanuts. I like the Eastern Shore, but I would never suggest someone move here unless they had (1) A job lined up or (2) Have done some market research to determine if their business will prosper here or better yet (3) Retired.
For what it's worth, I've never had a problem with crime here, but then I've never had a problem with crime anywhere I've lived. Every big city has bad areas. Stay out of the bad areas and bad things usually don't happen. My sister lived in downtown Chicago for a while in a very wealthy neighborhood. It was so close to the "bad" section that you could hear gun fire at night, yet you could walk through her neighborhood waving $100 bills at night. Sometime common sense prevails. Just stay away from areas know to be problematic.

THe niche im talkin about (naysayer) is a niche to start a business, maybe even one that becomes bigger than yourself...I have friends over the shore and quite a few down there that have done that very thing. Not everyone needs lead to work , told when to go the bathroom and told when to go home...some folks have initiative and put it to good use.
SO again why havent you moved yet?????
I guess everyone I know from delmar, shelbysville, milford , dover, salisbury, berlin.......they just are poor people with lousy jobs....my eyes are spinning.
they all have good jobs that allow them to have a comfortable life, nice house , kids , couple cars, time to enjoy the shore......whos spreading falsehoods. you would have everyone believe (BECAUSE OF SOME PERSONAL VENDETTA) that everyone over here is poor and has no money and crime is rampant. whos spreading falsehoods....do the shore and yourself a favor and move !!!!!

I dont have a personal vendetta against the shore and Im not spreading falsehoods either. Making statements like, "well if you like crime, gridlock and rude ppl then the western shore is for you" paints a picture of those negatives as if they never occur here but are a daily occurrence elsewhere. Of coarse there are gonna be more traffic accidents on the western shore, there are thousands more ppl there as well, the same can be said about crime. Its obvious that any negative comments about the shore, regardless of how true they are, is a touchy subject for you. Never did I say the shore was crime infested, but crime isnt as rare as you would have most believe either. Its not a bad place to live as long as you can find a decent paying job. I moved from a large million plus population city, lived here for 1 yr before my car was vandalized and personal property stolen. Until living here I never had any problems with crime, but the shore(supposedly crime-free according to some) introduced me to it. Im not gonna argue with you about this subject as we have gone back and forth before Moderator cut: edit.

You might try to leave the koolaid remarks out as they belittle people and their opinions. Just becuase youve experienced some crime doesnt mean the whole shore is like that. can I ask what town your in?

I reside in Willards but work in Salisbury. I apologize if the kool-aid remarks were offensive. Like I said before, lets just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Well, I'm moving to Delmar.
A little worried about the "not much to do" piece, but I LOVE the school district, and am looking forward to the short commute to work. I grew up in a small town, so this won't be that different to me. My kids will adjust....so let the experiment begin!

At least you found positives to look forward too. That is a big plus!!!!!!!!!!!
Most towns in DE are small towns and if you are used to small towns then you'll fit right in.
Best of luck to you and much happiness always!

Hi! I live in Delmar, DE and have my entire life. Delmar has a very nice family atmosphere. We just added a skate park which should be great for your tween kids. Delmar is right next to Salisbury, MD so you are close to the mall and the zoo (both small but nice). Delmar Middle and Senior High School has great athletic and academic programs. Beaches are 30 minutes away and there are rivers in neighboring towns so there's plenty of fishing and water sports. As for the "chicken smell" its only strong in the spring and when they are cleaning the houses out (which is only every few months). You don't smell it at all in town (where I live). You only smell it when they are spreading manure on the fields and you are driving by.
