Can someone tell me about membership requirements for Sam's Club? I want to know also, if you think it's worth it. Right now I belong to Costco and BJ's. I think there is Costco in Wilmington, that is too far. I don't think Delaware has BJ's. Sam's Club seems to be the closest to where we are moving.

Am not a member but I just googled it for you, there's several different memberships you can purchase.

movn, I think there's a Costco by the Christiana Mall. BJ's is in New Castle across from the airport. Both are south of Wilmington.
Below the canal, Sam's is in Dover and Salisbury, MD. Sam's is much like BJ's, but with a greater stock. I don't know anything about Costco. I never lived near one, but I hear they are nice. I think it depends on what you normally buy there that will determine it's personal worth to you. Membership is about the same. I've found that bulk laundry supplies and paper products can be just as reasonable at Target when they have a sale. |

I think a general membership costs more, but you can shop in a Sam's Club if you enter with a member. Don't know how that works, but I think you check out under your friend's membership card. I give a lot of parties for my business associates, clients, friends, and it's certainly worth it for me. I get my London Broil there, all my frozen hordeorves, mini pastries, and all the other party food. I also get all my party paper products there, and cases of paper for my computers. And, I've bought a laptop and industrial size shredder. If you don't buy large quantities of food items, you may not like it there.... Large bags of chips come 2 in a package, etc. Hope this was somewhat helpful. ![]() |

Thanks to everyone for all the information.
I have found with Costco and BJ's that there meats are wonderful. Much better than the supermarkets. You are right, Delly, you have to be prepared for bulk purchases. It does seem to work out a lot cheaper for some items. There are also other items that either aren't available in the supermarkets, aren't as fresh and such. You also have to know your prices because some things can be cheaper if you get them on sale in other stores. I was curious about the membership because I thought you had to be in business to have the membership. Sorry I wasn't more clear about it. I didn't recall from my research where Costco or BJ's are but since I will be in Kent County, I thought Sam's would be the choice. It is great if you can share a membership and then maybe join different clubs. Each one has their own advantages. Thanks again. |

movn, Something you may want to research (or maybe not want know too much about) is the meat at Sam's. If it's packaged the same way as the meats at SamWally'sGotYa, I've heard that there are a lot of additives. I really don't know the facts. I should look into the rumors myself. I used to by a lot of the fresh chicken breasts. They are marked from Purdue.
You can get an individual/family or business membership at Sam's. |

Yeah, that's what I thought, Charley. Too bad. The preformed burgers are really good. Must be the additives!?! ![]() |

WalMart, in Camden, DE, at least.....offers "organic" everything....free range chicken, no additives to beef/meat, organic lettuce and salad ingredients, and much more. Of course, all the "organic or non stuff" costs more. You just have to hunt for those meats, and many times they are sold out. I shop WalMart 2-3 times/week, just to buy those specific items, since I'm 5 minutes from there and the store is open 24 hours/day. In the produce aisle, there's plenty, plenty, plenty of organic, with no additives. Here Comes The Local Knowledge Again: They even sell local Fifer Orchard products, like sweet corn, apples, and pumpkins when they're in season. So, WalMart can mean one thing to one shopper, and another thing to, well...................ME!
There's no need for me to go food shopping all over town. Same for Sam's Club, North Dover......although, I've never seen Fifer's Orchard products there. |
