Rachlyn is on a distinguished road
Default Smyrna/commuting to Philadelphia

Hi Everyone,

I hope it's okay to ask this question in this forum... I've been looking around at different posts and can't seem to find or get the answer. We've decided on moving to the South Smyrna (Rt. Exit 114) area. After doing the "salary" research, Philadelphia looks like the better option between Philadelphia/Baltimore. Can you share your thoughts on that and also what the commute to both downtown areas would be by car from S. Smyrna.

Also, is there an express bus that you can catch in Kent County that will take you to Philadelphia. PLEASE advise.. Thank you!!

Driving from below the canal to Center City Philadelphia would annoy me to hell, but I am very intolerant of any commute over 5 miles.

From below the canal, you would probably take Rte 1 to that awful traffic interchange with 95. That would take maybe 15 minutes from the canal itself. From the 95 interchange, you deal with traffic from Churchman's Crossing to 495, which is another 15 mins.

After you hit 495, you're fine until you hit right below Chester, and then there's traffic, but not necessarily stop and go, more like 10mph. Once you get to Philadelphia, I would say a safe hour and a half from the Canal to CC Philadelphia (once you get in CC itself, traffic is rough and Manhattanish.)

On an off-peak time, you could shorten it to an hour and 10 mins or maybe even an hour if you put the pedal to the metal.

Yes Joe...........this is the way we would go but I have to say 95 during rush hour is a nightmare. I wouldn't want to do this every day. But then again, I'm spoiled with being retired.

Lol, I'm spoiled growing up in Wilmington... we always considered Newark a different realm and Philadelphia a painfully long trip.

My friends from other states talk about a 3 hour drive as if it were just up the street. Go figure
